I also have a Phillips television that is about 4 years old and the sound goes in and out. I don't understand the comment about trying another source (DVD or VCR) to see if the problem persists.

Poor signal coming in from antenna or cable will cause sound drop. but usaully the color goes first.

try another source like a vcr or DVD player and see if that is stable ...if same trouble your sound circuits need looking at.. which are easiest to fix.

replace the lamp on your TV, but only replace it with PHILLIPS brand. Anything other than that, will not last. We just replaced ours with Phillips and the picture is much brighter. It really shows the HD quality of the tv.

My 60 inch phillips tv, I turned it off the other night and now all i get when i turn it on is the power button flashing green. 6 quick flashes and then 1. I need my tv, plz help

Try a new Web search for your brand. Try looking for a Diagnostic trouble code of 6-1 and see if you can pull up parts of a Service manual using that search routine. Try Phillips trouble codes, Phillips Diagnostic Codes, or your model# in the search.

It sounds like it went into a default Diagnostic mode. If you have a Remote with extra functions it may get you into the Diagnostic menu.

My phillips tv has a green line at the bottom

This is a very common failure on Projection sets. Its called a convergence problem.
You may have one or more of the following symptoms.
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
No Audio / No Video - Makes Chirping Sounds

I have a 60 inch phillips rear-projection tv and there is no picture . There is a whinning sound and the light flashes at the power button. Can I fix it myself or does it need to go to a shop

it is better you get a repair guy to first open the set and to determine the exact problem.
the thing is you may make it worse if something goes wrong

First- Do you have a cable box ( with a volume menu in it)?
If you do make sure the volume on the box is at least 3/4 full, no lower. Then re adjust the volume on the tv to a normal level and let me know

TV turns itself off after a few seconds, no picture at all

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

The TV is a Phillips Matchline 55"; wide screen, approx 7 years old. When switched on the LED goes red then there is a clicking sound then the LED blinks red continuosly and there is no picture.

The TV is going into protective shutdown. What is the model number of your set? I may be able to help you depending on the chassis number.
