Sounds like it might be the drive belt which is worn and stretched beyond the ability of the self tension mechanism. To replace the belt on most top loading washing machines is quite simple and the parts can be gotten from one of many appliance part suppliers.

Steps for replacing the drive belt:

1. Unplug unit from AC
2. Tilt unit back on rear feet. You do not need to lay it completely over, just far enough to get to the belt.
3. Using only your hand you can remove the old belt. Take notice of the condition of the belt. If it has any glazing (shiny coating) on any edge the belt was slipping and most likely the cause of the problem.
4. Wipe all pulley wheels with a clean dry rag to remove any belt dust as this will act like a graphite lube when you install the new belt.
5. Install the new belt around the 3 pulleys (one is for the tub, one for the drive motor and one for the drain pump).
6. Plug the unit back into the AC and check for movement under a spin cycle.

If you still have a problem more than likely your unit is in dire need of a clutch bearing replacement. This is NOT something that most owners can do as there are several specialized tools needed to remove the tub brake mechanism (The brake mechanism is under 200lbs of torque) and attempted removal of the brake mechanism without the compression tool can and will result in bodily injury. This repair should ONLY be performed by a factory trained service tech.

A great place for all types of appliance parts is:

They ship anywhere in the world and for US shipping you can get next day shipping. I usually opt for 2-3 day ground and save the extra cost. This place is almost always the least expensive part supplier that I have used. They have a very detailed website and you can search by model number and find just about any part in less than 5 minutes.

Hope this helps. Cheers.

No spin, sounds like a spinning rachet handle

No spin, or lite spin try these:

Using a multi meter check for continuity the door switch, which when bad may not allow agitation or spin. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically.

Check the clutch, brake assembly and transmission, one way to check for slipping is to get under the machine after a spin cycle ( this is if u get a lil spin but not much leaving clothes still wet) mix in a spray bottle a lil water and some dish detergent, then spray it on the clutch assembly ( the metal round pc. Connected to the tranny) if it sizzles and steams up then u know its bad and slipping. Another way to check clutch if u get no spin at all? Is to take it out and use ur hand to try and turn the inner spring assembly pushing it around the inside? If its very easy, it BAD should be hard to push by hand.

Next check the motor coupler which engages the tub and tranny to the motor. ( if its bad u usually get no wash or spin or very little of either)

Next check for a loose, worn or broken belt if belt driven.

On some front load models u may need to check the STATOR assembly.
The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Sometimes a no spin machine can be due to a plugged waterpump hose or obstructed water pump propeller. Check these by eye and hand.

Agitator weak and ineffective

If this is one of the older "Belt" drive machines Id think the belt may be loose. If its a direct drive machine maybe the agitator is stripped? Can you push down on the agitator careful not getting fingers in the agitator vains see if you can stop it from agitating by hand and hear any differance in sound.

it sounds as if your lid switch is out of position. in the past depending on the model i have taped a penny or two to the top of the switch so the plunger makes contact
