Question about Toshiba 36A40 36" TV
I got an RCA 27" TV from someone who had moved it to another room but found it was "blurry" after moving it. I brought it home and tried all the suggestions I had found online but it was still blurry. I looked at the back of the TV and found 2 tiny knobs on the right (from the back view) which I began to fiddle with while looking at the screen. It fixed the blurriness immediately! I now have a beautiful screen.

Sounds like theres a leaky capacitor in the screen drive circuit. I have seen this problem also be a gassy crt but was able to clean off the grids of the CRT with a crt/rejuvinator. It happens because of low emmissions in the tube and when white is on thats a mix of all the colors, so the tube works harder. I bet when you whatch a movie and the scene changes suddenly to a white or brite scene the pic looks a little washed out. If this is not the case then I aggree with the Pravin and try it on another TV just to be sure .. This is not a repair for a consumer to do, though however it is only a three year old set you stated, so there should be life left in the tube, so im kinda thinking a capacitor is bad. Seek out a yechnician to check this out for you as a TV is not a place to see it you can fix it or to exoeeriment with. Good Luck

On my Toshiba 36A40 36" TV I have experienced the same thing. Nice picture, but the words are blurry to me, on the TV sub-titles and Satellite TV Guide. What I am about to tell you is no joke, I had my eyes checked and it turned out that I had a stigmatism and needed glasses. Since, I got them everything is much clearer, words and picture. You may want to check.

Ok..... let's take this a step at a time..... first, how are the words blurry? ..... are thet just generally blurry or are the colors (red green or blue) separated (like do the letters have a blue or red edge on them?) separated colors could be a convergence problem (must be fixed by a tech) are you running the video game into the tv through the antenna port rather than through a line level video port? this can make things (especially text) a bit blurry..... is everything blurry? this could be a focus voltage problem (must be fixed by a tech) also many video game machines produce blurry video to begin with, and i would do what the other techs said, and try it out on another tv to make sure, but try it out on a screen the same size (a bigger screen might look worse, a smaller screen might look better).....

Could a blurry screen be caused by an aerial that has been installed.

SOURCE: dark picture (HELP)
Open up the back of the set but be very carefull. Notice a large black block with a large red wire that runs up to the picture tube. on one side of that large block where the thick red wire is comming out of are two controls, one should be marked focus or F and one should be marked screen or S. With the set operating normally and not touching anything else, slowly turn the control marked screen or S clockwish till the picture gets bright enough. If you go too bright the set will shut down or you see small thin white lines so back down on the control. then touch up the focus and your good to go. good Luck.

SOURCE: the words on the display
This can be corrected. You will need to use caution. Pull the back cover off. You will see a flyback transformer. You will note, that a suction cup is connected to the back of the picture tube. Follow the red lead and you will see the flyback transfomer. You will also see, two potentiometers on this transformer. The top knob will correct the focus you are talking about. The bottom knob will increase or decrease the voltage to the picture tube. Just work with the top pots. It will say focus on the knob. Turn back and forth as you watch the lettering of an informational program. This will be helpful. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!
