SOURCE: Tefal electric kettle (vitesse) works sometimes.

hi i hope i can help you with this? you dont have a short in the chord as this would be a fire danger. may i please ask if you have a multimeter. check the fuse if ok check for a breakage in the mains cable ie conniunity if ok open up and check to make sure there is power going in? if ok? please check the switch if power is going into the switch put the probes to the other side of the switch if no reading the problem is likely to be the switch. i hope this will help you?

SOURCE: Power cord overheats

The thermostat is not shutting the unit down and cycling it on/off as it should. This will cause the power cord to overheat and it will catch fire. STOP using this unit and either replace it or have it repaired. More than likely cheaper to just replace it.

Information to question already asked the fact the power is lighting both lights up but no noise of starting to boil does this kettle need a new element and if so where can a get it fixed.

You are not specifying what make it is but you hardly get replacement elements for kettles any more. The fact that you can see that power is available at the kettle it is indicating that it might be the element being defective. Had it been it switched on without any water in it? If it is the old type where the electrical cord gets plug in at the kettle check if it is well plugged in otherwise it is time for a new kettle.

No lights or boil

I would test the thermo fuse, power switch, and the AC cord. You will need the proper connectors, crimp tool, and replacement parts.

Kettle not boiling water

Please use a multimeter and check the continuity of the power cord , now switch on and test the coils resisitance. If there is no continuity then the coil is open and the element has to be changed.
You need to contact spares dept of murphy richards.

Not boiling anymore.

Hi.

Problem is usually either the heating element or the thermostat installed in line with the element. The heating element can be tested using a multimeter. A good element will read from 20 to 80 Ohms (depending on type and model). If the element reads open (Ohms infinity), then the part must be replaced.

The thermostat can be tested jumping its contact. With the thermostat contacts jumped the kettle will not turn off. With thermostat jumped the appliance must be turned off manually. If the kettle works with the thermostat jumped, then the problem was the thermostat.

If problem is none of the above test the kettle switch. Check also the fuse that is in the power cord (do this first). Disconnect power before performing any maintenance.

Kettle will not heat. Russell Hobbs corded

Check mains fuse, if ok check for voltage at kettle , with multi meter, not phase tester as these can be faulty, if you have power and no heat then it has to be the switch or the element, check and replace same. if your unsure have an electrician do it for you

Replacement Power Cord

You can find replacement cords for many counter top appliances at most appliance and building supply stores. Try Ace, Home Depot, Lowes. Take the pot with you to make sure you are getting the correct cord.
