If the compressor is starting up and there is no cooling effect on the coils in the freezer that would mean you lost your charge or the compressor bad (Unlikely). I would take the back panel off the inside back of the freezer and observe the coils. With the compressor running you should see a coating of rime or frost building up on the coils. If you don't see this you probably lost all the coolant. I've seen this often after a move. The condensing coils under the fridge get poked, it doesn't take much to puncture them.

Why doesn't it run after being moved across town?

laying down is a no no and has to stand turned off for about 24 hours so the oil returns to the compressor . quite likely you have burned the compressor up using it too soon .

Moving my fridge on it's side or at an angle

You can lay it down but if you do, when you stand it up, wait 24 hours before you plug it in to turn it on. The reason is because the oil in the cooling system has to settle after being layed down.

My refrigerator wont work after laying it down to move it. What should I do?

I've done that before and there's no hope for it. Once you laid it down the freon got a air pocket in the compressor and it will no longer work. Guy from sears told me that laying them down ruins them.

I am moving and need to lay the fridge on its side, but have been told you cannot do so, is this correct?

You do not want to lay that refrigerator on its side because the refrigerant will leave the compressor and fill the system with liquid refrigerant where it should only be existing in a gaseous state, and if the refrigerator is tilted far enough over or lay-ed onto its side then the refrigerator will have to stand up-right and un-plugged for at least 24 hours before the liquid refrigerant will settle back down where it belongs, and then the refrigerator should actually function again if there was no other damage caused when moving the unit.

I bought a side by side today from a friend and it was working fine got it home and now its not cooling??

Did you lay it on its side? This can cause a freon restriction, sometimes you can save it by unplugging it for a few days and then testing it again. Also check to see if you bent the condensor fan blade or bracket when you used a shipping dolly to move the refrigerator. Remove the backing panel on the lower back of the refer and make sure the fan is running. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists.

We move my refrigerator and it was laid down for about 2 hours we plug it up when we got home now it won't get cold, how long will it take to start getting cold it been about 2 days now

It shuld never be layed down for transport or storage. 2 Hours is not a long time but you should have left it upright overnight before plugging in. turn it off for 24 hours. When you restart it it should be cooling in a few hours and at normal temp in 24-48. If not you may have damaged the compressor. (Assuming you hear it running)

I need to know if it is possible to transport side by side refrigerators laying flat. or almost flat. This will be a short move for about 1/2 hour.

Hello, Yes you can move your side by side laying on it's back..it is most important though that when you have it in it's new place you leave it unpluged for 24 hours so the oils can run back into the compressor. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again...Mike

I have a GE side by side.. When we got home last night I noticed some water on the the floor and the power was on inside the refrigerator but the cooling apparently stopped working. I moved the fridge and...

The defrost timer will turn off the compressor and its cooling fan. At the same time it turns on the defrost heater, and usually leaves the freezer fan running. Defrost can take half an hour, easy. As soon as the defrost thermostat is satisfied, the defrost heater is supposed to turn off, and the compressor may come back on. The defrost timer is about the size of a cell phone, with about five wires going to it in a plug. It has a small dial on it that only goes one way. You can mark it and wait a half hour to see if it moves.

Fridge not cooling

Hello.
The most common thing that happens while moving a frig is when moving it they put the dolly underneath the condenser fan housing and bend it into the fan causing the compressor to overheat before it has a chance to cool down everything. If this isn't the case then I will send you a list of things to check out. Let me know.
