Re: Spacebar does not work.

Sounds like the rubber is stuck, take off your space bar (make sure you can put it back), make sure theres nothing on the little rubber peices, and put it back on

How to reset my apple mac i5 2.7GHz 4GB

Resetting the Firmware on an Apple Intel Based Macbook Pro/Mac Mini/Imac/xServ

As soon as you press the power button hold down all the following keys on the keyboard;
CMD, Option, P, R

This will result in the startup chime sounding twice instead of once.

[CMD is the key left of the spacebar, Option is the key left of CMD]

This should fix most POST/Display/Firmware faults if no serious hardware fault is present

Hope this helps! :)

I have a mac Laptop and the space button on the bottom of the keyboard is stuck down .. can this be fixed?

It is tricky to repair the space bar. It has a plunger in the middle and is held in place by tension clips. The tension clips are what make the spacebar pop back up. Usually one clip comes loose and the other side still bounces. If the spacebar is stuck down with no bounce, I would check to see if there is something wedged under the spacebar. Get a can of compress air and blow under it, hopefully this will release whatever is under there. Only take the spacebar off carefully without jerking it upwards. If it breaks the clip holder at each end, you will need a new KB.

Good Luck.

1 Answer't-work.

Check if there's some oddball third-party software conflict :
use System Preferences -> Accounts to create a new administrative user account, log into that freshly-created troubleshooting account, and see if the spacebar works correctly. If it does, check the user preferences back in the normal account: open Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal, then copy and paste the following and press return:
find ~/Library -name '*.plist' -exec /usr/bin/plutil -lint {} \;

The keyboard is locked I cant use any key on the keyboard. the only functioning keys are the spacebar and delete button. how do I unfreeze the keyboard? last time i used the ease of acess and did...

I am unsure what you mean bu "ease of access." I would recommend restarting, but if you cannot even do that then plug in a new keyboard and mouse via USB and open Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility). From here click on verify permissions. If it comes up with any errors then click repair. Do the same with the verify disk option. This should help.

How do you use tabs with safari?

In the view menu select 'show tab bar' When the tab bar is showing, there is a small plus on the right end of the bar that will add a new tab.

Also, of you click a link while pressing the sticky key (the apple 'command' key on either side of the spacebar) the link will open in a new tab.

Some keys won't work; delete, tab, spacebar, pg down, pg left (but pg up and right work) my external keyboard works fine. Help?

most of the time the problem is caused by a bad or worn out membrane. This is a green looking bar that is under the keys. You can find a replacement on ebay. Whomever you buy the membrane for will be able to give you detailed instructions on how to replace it. On a toshiba laptop, it takes 5 screws to replace. If you look at the bottom of your laptop, you will see a keyboard icon and that tells you which screws need to be taken out.
