Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions

even something as small as an electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs all electrical power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

hope this helps you

I need to buy a internal hard drive for a Philips Freeline LS2200. Can you advise me if I need a 2.5 or 3.5 inches?

The Philips Freeline LS2200 uses a 320GB SATA Seagate, 3.5 inch width harddrive. (7200RPM)
The usual desktop sized harddrive.

Due to the low costs of SATA desktop harddrives, I would recommend at least a 500GB unit,

Computer will run for serveral minutes then shut down. I have new mother board, new power supply. i use cpu paste that is new. the cpu fans starts with a roar and then is very quite.

Hi
The initial fast running of the fan is normal, I'm assuming the fan has as 4 pin connector which is the one with thermal control ( fan speed increases as the cpu gets hotter).

Try booting into the bios, in hardware monitor tab, see what the cpu temp is doing and the motherboard temp. Look for any initial overheating. If the bios screen indicates a temperature rise to say 80 degrees within the 1st 3 minutes of booting, then recheck the security of the cpu, the thermal paste used and whether the base of the heatsink is free from pits.

Look also at the power output of the 12v and 5 v etc circuits, make sure they are within 0.5 volts (0.25 is better).

Check the motherboard and connections, in particular, look for blowing capacitors, or signs of arcing that would cause power to earth. You may have a hairline crack in the circuit that is expanding as the board warms up.

Check the ram is right for the board, remove one module at a time, test with it in and out.

Unplug all hard drives and optical drives, see if it boots to the bios and stays on and then replace each in turn.

Check the PSU.. new it may be but it could be faulty

remove the graphics card if fitted and any other slot in cards, test with these out of the computer, disconnect the usb cables from their headers

After that, the issue may be a fault with the switch, the switch wires or a faulty board or cpu.

Hard drive

Hi,

Some motherboards support both IDE and SATA so it is not unlikely for your MOBO to have both. There should be some mention of SATA in the motherboard BIOS screens so have a look see. Otherwise just plug in a SATA device to it and see if it works!!

Cheers,
Ripface.
