The tape will not eject from my Canon ZR70MC. I have tried turning it off without power and then hooking the power back up without success. When I push the eject button, the eject device will open and move out, but the actual tape container will not pop open to allow me to get the tape out.
I had the exact same problem, and just by dumb luck, I managed to get the tape compartment to pop open after trying hundreds of things. Maybe this will work for you too...who knows??? What I did was to first remove the battery and AC power to "reset" the camera (I guess). I then put the battery back in place and WHILE HOLDING THE CAMERA IN THE UPRIGHT (AS IF USING THE CAMERA FOR VIDEO) POSITION, I pushed the "Open/Eject" latch. VIOLA!!! Like I said, it may be dumb luck, but I haven't had the problem again. It may be that gravity helped to take the stress off the ejecting mechanism...dunno???? BTW, when I was having the problem, the mechanism would "click" 3 or 4 times while trying to move the tape out. Good luck!!! I hope this helps someone!
I had the same problem...my daughter was using the camera and tightened the strap to be able to hold it. Loosening the strap allowed the cover to open all the way and allow the tape mechanism to initiate and the tape comes out.
I'm having the same problem. I've tried everything. Of course it says on the outside of the tape compartment "Do Not Press This Part" which I haven't. But it is the top black portion that does not pop open to insert or take a tape out. It's about to drive me nuts. If anyone in the WORLD has this problem or knows a fix, could you help our your fellow Canon ZR70 MC'ers to fix theirs?
Thanks above for all your suggestions. However, I still cannot get the Canon ZR70MC tape compartment to come out. I continually get a blinking prompt on the screen of "EJECT" which makes me feel it is due to a faulty sensor or something in the camera. I can't believe this. I pay over $600.00 for this thing and it doesn't work when I need it the most. If any of you haven't checked, you will be amazed at how much Canon charges for service. When going to their website, it shows a mandatory charge of $159.00 just to send it in to them for repair. If you want a camera that isn't going to cost you an arm and a leg to repair, DO NOT get a CANON ZR70MC!
I'm still open to any fixes for this. Because I refuse to pay that much for service after shelling out over $600.00 for the thing in the first place. What a riot!
I just got my tape out!!!!! It has taken me 2 days off and on with this. Guest Solution 2 above is what I used to get it open. THANKS. Take a small 3 inch screwdriver (the smaller the better) and GENTLY use it to touch and push. You want to open the automatic door to its widest then disconnect battery or cord to stop it in open. Now look for the tiny silver spring on the right and also on the left of the black plastic cassette holder. Just look for these first and spot them. Now there is a little latch right there very small that is attached to the spring on both sides which is holding the top down. You want to gently push down with the screwdriver on the latch that the spring is attached to. You will notice it will lift on one side a little. Now try the other side same type thing and presto it pops open. Unlatch both sides for it to pop open. Now you take out your tape and push the black plastic case back down. (That part does NOT go back automatically). It will be the same procedure to insert the tape. I think I have a bad Mini-DV tape and am going to replace it today and hope and pray it will be fixed. Blessings!
This is the only thing that works tza10099. Thank you for the detail. I do suggest new tape also, although it doesn't seem to make sense, it seemed to be part of the problem. Thank you!
where is the spring on the left side? Is it kind of deep into the machine? I found the one on the right, but can't find the other one. Maybe I found it, but just can't reach it?

Thanks Tom in MB. Worked perfectly!
Just had this same problem with the ZR65. I can open the manual door, but the tape wouldn't move at all. I shook it a little and after trying to get it to move forward 10 times it finally did and then wouldn't shut or eject.
If you can get the tape to move forward, but not pop up if you look closely on one side there is a spring. Take a knife and push down (gently) on the little thing that the spring is attached to. My tape popped right up. I put in a new tape and it wouldn't close. I took out the battery and put it back in. The motor turned and pulled the tape back in. I shut the manual door and reopened and the tape ejected as normal.
Hope this helps.
Tom In MB. Thank You , it worked, and not even for the same model, good idea though!!
With much playing around i got it open but now I have 2 of the tape guide not going in to position properly so the camera will eat my tape,
Elura 70 SUCKS! It has hardly been used but never works...it was repaired at a high price and once again does not work. The tape compartment will not open. It is a piece of junk! Do NOT buy a Canon...go to Sony...my old Sony camera still works with no problems...Canon will not fix anything and will try to charge you a fortune to fix they second rate products! Idiots!
My ZR65 would only eject about halfway and then stop, before opening the black door. I got frustrated and decided to give it a little help and pull on the entire tape compartment to get it out the rest of the way, which actually worked to get the tape out, but not to fix the problem (now it won't close).
This problem did not occur until after being dropped (in a carrying case) at the airport.
I have same issue
Can't Believe It!! tried Paintgirl's solution and it worked right away (i've had the stuck door for months)...my camera is the elura 100 but it worked the same. thanks
The strap thing seemed to have worked for me with the same problem. Even though I had "pulled" the door all the way open before. I pulled the strap all the way open and now it works perfect every time!!! Thanks paintgirl!!!
Tried HUIG's solution and it worked on the first try. Great suggestion!!!
I can't believe that some of you have your problem solved by loosening the strap!!!! Arrrrghhh.
For the rest of us in zr65 hell...we are stuck for eternity watching the eject over and over again!
help!

exact same issue. canon online support suggests a service center.
my cassate
I also have this problem. I can get the tape to eject halfway but can't get it to pop open so that I can pull the tape out. I take the battery out and put it back in and than open it to eject it, it comes out and pauses for a moment, then it goes back in.
I pulled the battery out at the point that the tape was halfway ejected, so that it wouldn't go back in, and looked on the left side of the tape mechanism. I found a little hook that was holding the tape down and just gently pushed on it. It popped open and I was able to pull the tape out.
Every time I put a tape in and try to get it working again, I can't eject the tape unless I do this again. At least you will be able to get your tape out.
I have the same problem as described: Open the door, the compartment rises but never opens to expose tape. Bummer.
My tape deck will not open to eject the tape. It comes up then goes back down without opening. I've had this thing break on a previous camera. Its due to extreme conditions. I left it in my car. I am curious to how expensive it is to fix, and when part is needed.
when i push eject it doesnt open
Worked for me too!
