Question about Polaroid FLM-3232 Television

Polaroid LCD TV FLM-3232 turns on, then turns off

My Polaroid LCD TV FLM-3232 completely stopped working without any warning. When you plug it in, the LED is red. When you push the power button, the LED turns blue for a few seconds, then turns back to red.

I saw the capacitor post by Stev0 but after inspecting all three caps (and physically tested) the capacitors are all fine. I actually have all new caps installed and it still does the same thing.

I have read countless horror stories of other consumers and Polaroid LCD TVs and now I feel their frustrations! I have had the TV for about 16 months.

The factory warranty was only for 12 months. I have had the TV roughly 16 months now. I did not purchase any extended warranties.

I have not checked for a blown fuse as I could not locate one. Connection from the power supply to the main circuit-board is snug.

    In reply to:
    Hi,
Most likely your TV needs Back Light Inverter board to work again. Its available at Shop Jimmy.
You can get Poaroid LCD TV parts on very low prices there.
    Good Luck.

Thanks for your reply. I have replaced several Back Light Inverter boards. This does not seem to be the case. Usually, when the TV boots up, it takes a few seconds, then the TV Brand Logo shows up for second, then my image comes up. Right now, it does not stay on long enough to display that start-up logo. It turns off within 2 seconds.

Thanks for your solution cbinny1. However, I believe I voided the warranty (well, if I had one) when I replaced the 3 capacitors I mentioned. When I get home tonight, I'm going to look more closely at the other boards and connections. I did find info on someone on Craigslist/Jacksonville FL, that actually knows what the problem is and will do the repair for $100.00. Problem is, I don't live in Jacksonville. I e-mailed them and asked what they'd charge for providing me the solution but haven't heard back from them.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I got rid of the TV so no need to answer the problem any longer. Thanks again!!

Did you check the fuse ?

There is chance for loose connection .

Did you check the connection from power supply to circuit board ?

I think you might have damaged the ICs when replacing the capacitors because when an IC takes a direct "hit" from a static discharge, the dielectric
will get burn holes completely through the layers and that will render
the IC useless. It's easy to look at the capacitors and see that
they're bad, but it is difficult to see damage to IC

When you have no raster, led is red, and the led turns from red to blue on Polaroid LCDs, that means that there can be a faulty inverter, or a faulty or misplaced connector to LCD, or a bad LCD display, or a bad ccomponent in control box.

Unless you have a strong experience in servicing electronics, I suggest purchasing an extended guaranty and having it fixed by a technician. In that case you

If you know how to repair electronics I can guide you, that will require testing components and probably replacing them, using the solder on your TV main PCB.

Easy things that you can check are :

  • LCD connector (LVDS cable), try unplugging an plugging it back.
  • Test the inverter board, see if you get 24V power out to LCD panel. If faulty replace it.
  • If you do not find any other problem, then test the control box

Less easy to test :

D-sub 37pin board, this is the board that manage I/O connections it connects to the inverter, to speakers and to the control box.

BeSafe, If you can hold on a bit longer. Some our other board geniuses will be online later. They are in other English speaking countries and some are very very good at knowing just which IC chip and supporting parts on the boards.

No need to rate this reply its not a contribution to solving your problem. I'd just encourage you to keep your premium question open until 7am GMT tomorrow. There's one tech in Australia I'm thinking of in particular and unfortunately another in Trinidad but he's tied up by activity in his business right now for a few more days. We all are in fact as this is a busy time of the year.

This model TV is known for having issues with failed power supplies. The only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment and the skills to use the test equipment. If you feel capable of repairing the TV yourself, you may want to try and replace and capacitor in the TV that is bulging or leaking. Click here for some information that will aid in the capacitor replacement. This will likely correct the problem but the only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment

It sounds like you have tried everything I have been able to find on the web......Have you Registered your TV with Polaroid yet? Because if you haven?t you can make up the few months your past on the warrantee.....I would go and Register and then call on the warrantee.....it?s a bit fishy but it works...In my opinion they should just warrantee it for you. (being so close to the end an all) ....I have had great success when I have call the manufactory directly to see what they can do for me......don?t talk to just any one ask for the manager of customer service or the manager in the warrantee department...in the very begging of your call.... here is there information if you didn?t have it already Regional Headquarters: Polaroid Corporation Corporate Headquarters 300 Baker Avenue Concord, MA 01742-2131 Phone: +1 781-386-2000 Good Luck and be assertive but not an *** on the phone.......I find that when I?m just strait up honest with them it all works out....If it doesn?t try the Registration thing?Let me know if this helped cbinny1

That's why back light inverter is suspected because it doesn't work and system control shuts down TV in 2 seconds.
Have you tested back light or you get any flash on screen?
