Question about Philips 28PW6305 28" TV

Open Question

My tv has a slow response and the top volume and channel buttons do not work

I have lost the original remote control so am using an all-in-one remote control. The problem persisted with the old remote. The tv has a 30 second delayed response time. The top volume and channel buttons do not work at all. can this be fixed by myself? THANKYOU

We had this problem with a 28PW6515. The control would work for 30 seconds after switching on, then nothing. It was diagnosed as the "glue chip" which handles all the control functions. About £200 to fix it as it's a surface mount chip.

There is a way that you can check the remote buttons are working.

Get a mobile phone with a camera on it.

Set the phone to camera mode.
Whilest looking through the mobile. point the the Tv remote at the camera phone and press each button individually. what you will see on your mobile is a light coming from the remote for the buttons that are working. If certain button are not working you will see no light through the camera phone. If this is the case you may need to get a replacement remote.

If you do need to replace the remote this can be quite expensive to buy from the manufactor. So what I would surgest is getting a sky remote off a friend or family member. or even Tesco. argos. It does not matter what the remote is ie Standard, Sky+ or HD remote. (which ever you can get cheaper) The reason behind this is Sky remote have a default code in them to work PHILIPS tv's. When you get this remote if it does not work your telly straight away. What I would then do is remove the battery's from the remote for a minimum of 10 minutes that way it loses the code someone has set it up for and defaults back to Philips Code.

All of the above will sort your Problem out.

You owe me a Pint. : )

It will be best for you to buy its original remote control. Universal remotes may also work with it, but some functions may not work properly. You can buy it from the Authorised Service Center for Toshiba at your town. Just give them the exact model number of you TV set [which can be noted at its back side]. They will give you the exact original one.

RCA RCR 311B model universal remote have setup codes for Toshiba. You may also try this remote. The codes are:
1047, 1071, 1103, 1105, 1108, 1159, 1163, 1178, 1188, 1190, 1191, 1196, 1211
I strongly advice you to buy its original one. OK.

I have an Orion 19"

You usually need the original remote. The trouble with universal remotes is that they generally control only the basic functions of a TV (power, volume, channel) but not much else. Without the original, you often lose other functions. You can try the front panel buttons if yours has them. On some sets the on-screen menus allow you to access caption settings.

But are you sure the captions are coming from the TV? Sure, the TV is displaying them, but if you have a satellite receiver, cable box or digital set-top box, the captions may be coming from that device. This is likely to be true if the captions just mysteriously started and you don't have or aren't using the TV original remote. These devices often don't allow a TV's built-in caption decoder to work properly, so they provide captions themselves. You may have turned captions on using that device's remote. Check the menu for caption controls.

I can't get my dish system to work with this TV. I'm only getting 2 chanels. How do I program new chanels to this TV? I need chanel 60.

It depends on the TV a bit. Which model of Broksonic TV do you have? Do you have the original remote? ( has replacement remotes for many TVs.) Look at the TV (or the original remote) for a menu or channel add subtract option. (The TV is probably programmed to skip the channels that didn't have a signal in the past so you need to reprogram this.) If the TV is a really simple TV (with just the channel and volume controls on the TV), you'll need the original or a direct substitute remote (or a higher end programmable remote). Most basic universal remotes will control power, channel and volume but not the reprogram channels option (in my experience). If you can program the add/remove channels, press 60 on the remote, wait for the TV to go to that channel and then press the Add Channel button. Alternately, with the satellite receiver on, press the combination to search all channels and program the skip to channels with signal.

I hope this helps.

(I had a really old Emerson TV; when the original remote started to fail, the cheap universal remote didn't handle the channel programming. Fortunately, the original remote would usually still work for that.)

Volume controls dont work when using remote

I would start by trying other codes on the universal remote. Sometimes codes will only work part of the remote such as the numbers or channels but not volume. Your motorola cable remote sounds like it may only need a good cleaning. sometimes when you take remotes apart it will look like somthing got spilt in it. I would start there first.

You need the original remote controller to be able to switch input modes.Universal ones usually don't work. If you don't have the original remote and can't find it ever or if it is too expensive you can buy an rf modulator ( very cheap) and connect your dvd player, game console etc) to the modulator then connect the modulator to your antenna with a coax cable. This worked for me. It placed the connection to channel 4 and other cable channels are still working,

You can buy the RF Modulator from:

Old philips tv model no 21PT1532/05

this may be too late, but i had the same problem, then discovered that if you press the top of the volume up/down buttons together, the menu comes up. I was trying to solve another problem this way when I accidentally locked the TV. The instruction booklet tells me that you can only unlock it with the remote control, but that has long ago bit the dust. Does this mean that I'll never be able to turn it on again??!!

Universal remote control are normally programmed for basic functions, ie. chennel up down, volume up down, numbers, etc. This is even written in the manual that they do not guarantee that all functionality can be used. Here are your options: 1. Try all the codes that match your TV, there is a slim chance that the other code have the functionality that you need. 2. Buy the original model remote control. 3. If you know of someone that have the same TV, buy a universal remote control with 'learning' function and copy the signal from the original remote control. I have the same problems before. Now I use my Casio wrist remote control to copy the special functions such as A/V so that even if the original remote control is lost, I can still use these functionality
