Brother mfc 8500 clicking noises

Our fax machine which is a brother mfc-8500. makes clicking noises when it receives a sheet of paper. Whether it is a fax or a print. They all still come thru, and we don't seem to miss anything, it just clicks really loadly. I assume it is a roller problem but can't seem to find anything that looks like it is sticking out or not in the right place. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have had the same problem with my 4-5 year old MFC 9660, i.e. clicking noise but printing OK until now. After a week holiday break the clicking noise is there but the paper feed no longer works and changing the drum unit has not made any difference. Hope someone has a solution.

I have the same problem ... printer now jams the paper on every attempt to print or receive a fax. Seems like it might be a roller problem. Replacing drum doesn't help.

I have had the same peoblem for a long time. Now a different problem has occured while trying to print. It makes a clicking sound similar to baseball card on a bicycle spoke and gets jammed. Solution might be a new machine?

understand exactly , but the problem persists if i close the cover without inserting the toner cartridge back in. it sounds like it is coming from just in back of where the toner would go

If you open the cover and remove the toner/drum unit, you will see (on the left side as you remove) a small hole with two triangle teeth.
on either side of this hole are two small phillips head screws. this is the problem we had with our clicking noise. As the machine tries to turn the toner/drum, the innards of the toner are becoming harder to turn. So the part of the fax machine that fits in the hole end up stripping the teeth in that hole. If you have an old toner cartridge, you can remove the gearing from it (where the small phillips head screws are) and use it to replace the gearing on the newer cartridge. Or go buy a new toner cartridge.

We have a Brother MFC -8500 fax machine. Every day

The Drum unit is a consumable.

Buy a new Drum from Staples , Office Max etc and replace it soon.
It will stop and refuse to print when a certain page count is reached.

When I go to print or copy the machine makes a loud clicking noise and then says paper jam. Brother MFC - 8460 N

Hello,
The loud clicking noise is either the toner cartridge or the paper feed. If the jam occurs in the drum and toner cartridge then I recommend changing the toner.
If the paper is not being fed at all then you need to have the paper feed kit replaced.
Thanks,
Pat

My fax machine keeps saying there is a paper jam.

look on the bottom of your drum unit. there is a sensor opening that might have a tiny piece of paper in it, not allowing the sensor flag to reset. if thats not it, closely inspect behind rear door.

When fax, the paper cannot be loaded.

The machine clicks when you plug in the power is the gear porblem, most likely the gear is broken.
the one that does not pickup paper is the roller.
you can change the roller form the licker to this one.

hope that helps.

Brother MFC 8500 receives faxes and does nothing else

Check to make sure that the PC Fax Function is turned off. I noticed after I connected the 8500 to my PC and installed the software, I too could no longer receive faxes and it was corrected after I turned this PC Fax function off.

The function is located by:

  1. Press the MENU button.
  2. Select Option 2.
  3. Select Option 1.
  4. Select Option 8 (PC Fax) and turn that function OFF.
Hope this helps!
