Hi.. I REALLY hope someone can help me out here... I have been playing
on my PS3 perfectly for a long time now.. But when I updated to 2.5 the
sound of every piece of my PS3 went out. Is gone. Nada. I can play
movies, games, everything, but there is no sound. I can't hear
anything. I have tried to restore the settings, tried to restore the
settings holding down the power button on the console, checked
(obviously) my audio settings, and there is nothing wrong, but I just
can't hear a thing!!! I re-downloaded the update from ps3 website and
tried to install it over again (just in case there was something wrong
with the previous installation) and nothing!! I still can't hear a
thing!! Does anyone is having the same problems?? has anybody come to a
solution for this problem? please help..
I am using a Samsung LCD 37" connected with HDMI by the way.. And as I
said, I had no problems whatsoever before the freaking new update..
please someone help!!
I had that problem, this worked for me: first switch the system off and on at the back( so the red light is on) hold down the power switch at the front until you hear two beeps. It will reset the ps3 and bring up some display and sound menus, just follow the instructions and it should work. I hope this works for you! P.S This will NOT wipe the harddrive
Switch the button on the back on and off so you just see a red light on the ps lit up, then hold down the power button until u hear a second beep. let the tv detect the hdmi and audio then shabam, should be good to go again.
I too have the same issue immediately after the 2.52 update, glad to see I am not alone... well no that doesn't make me feel better either :( 60gb console here if that matters. I have aalready e-mailed Sony on the matter and hopefully the do something about it

May sounds like a silly answer, but, do you have your PS3 hooked up to the internet. If not, there are many updates for the system which you are missing and therefore the new games will not play because of missing system updates. Hope this helps you out.
I had a similar problem. My PS3 did not start the disk based games. Those disk based games were not visible in the game menu. I did not have problems with the normal movie DVDs or Movie Blu Rays. Those were working fine.
In case you have the similar problem, you should try the following steps;
The PS3 has a special Recovery Menu, which you can access in the following way;:
1. Turn off Playstation 3. 2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again. 3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps 4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button. 5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button 6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery Menu supports: • Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION 3 System. • Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default. • Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files. • Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION 3. • Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch. • System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION 3 System
Select option "Rebuild Database".
After PS3 has executed the DB rebuilding operation, the disc games will be visible again in the menu and are starting automatically when inserted to PS3.
I might sound like a stupid solution, but if the PS3 is in a dusty area it sometimes freezes.. Try to vacume clean it.. Also, is your fan on and does it sound ok. It might freeze due to overheating. If it only freezes when you play games on a disc, it might be a problem with the laser reader, which could also be due to dust.
Following consumer feedback regarding some issues while playing Assassin’s Creed for PlayStation 3, a corrective update has been developed and will be released worldwide on the PLAYSTATION® Network over the next few days. You can proceed to installation simply by launching your Assassin’s Creed game. Please note that release times of this update may vary depending on your location. Thank you again for your patience.
remember how you paid? if it was a check or a card you can use that as proof of payment, just get a hold of r bank and let them know what the story is,make sure you get a backed up bank statement on the day you purchased it also is your ps3 still under warranty, if so talk to the store manager, or get a hold of people at playststion, one of those people should be able to let you know if there is in fact anything they can do for u. if your ps3 is not under warranty then i am affraid your screwed, unless you can find someone perhaps on the internet or at a computer store or something like that, that will be able to fix it, it sounds like a computer error if it hasn't worked since the update, the ps3 is really a computer not a video game system, call bestbuy ask for the(geek sqaud) maybe they can help, or gamestop they have those all over the country, hope this helps if you havn't already tried it. GOOD LUCK
Hi, I had a similar problem not so long ago, when the PS3 would turn itself off, I think it was an issue with the fan, don't forget these things run quite hot, have you got adequate ventilation to the sides, top and bottom and do you get a lot of fan noise (like a jet aircraft!!).
If memory serves me well, a system update also did the trick, as I think fan issues were fixed in this.
Hope this helps
