Hi gateside,

When you say the computer crashed you mean Windows is not booting up to the desktop or it gives you a Blue screen error message on your monitor. If this is your case then your data actually is still in the hard drive, but the problem is that you are not able to access it since your Harddrive is not able to bootup to Windows.

What I would suggest that you do first is try booting up to Safe Mode, to do this you can keep pressing F8 as soon as you turn on the PC until you get the "Windows Advanced Options" menu then use the arrow keys to choose Safe Mode and press enter. If you don't get any errors and you are able to login to your account in Safe Mode, then you can still copy and backup your files and pictures in your computer.

If this doesn't work the only other option for you to get your pictures is by making the hard drive that you have as a slave in another computer so that you can copy files. This is a tedious process, since you will need another computer and that you have to open up the case and take out the hard drive. I would suggest that you have a tech friend help you out with this procedure or bring your computer to a shop so that they can do this procedure for you.

Now in the worst case scenario that your hard drive is not being detected at all, or the hard drive is just making "clicking sounds", then you most likely won't be able to retrieve the data anymore. Except if you have a 3rd party data recovery company work on it, which is costlly, that I can't recommend it to you.

If you bought your PC from a manufacturer like Dell or HP, check with them if you get help or parts replacement for your hard drive if required.

Hope this helps!

Peace! :)

First you need to figure out wether its a hardware or software problem. If the power supply went bad all your information is there when you put a new power supply in. If the hard drive is bad, you might have lost some data.

if you do a partial install and not a full recovery on the computer you should be able to recover the files. consult your computer manual for the directions on how to do this. if you would post your computer make, model and operating system, it would help me help you better

is the computer getting power?
are all fans clean and operating inside and out? (may require removing the computer cover or side)
do you have the manual and/or CD?
please answer a few of these questions and post again..

Motherboard info
Yes it'll work. Worst case scenario is that you will need to do a bios update. Overheat should not be a problem if you are using the intel reference cooler wich is provided with the cpu.
