Would like a diagram on how to hook up extra speakers to my dell 2400 and just how many can be added to system

If your current speakers are plugged in to the back of the computer, then there is no way to install additional speakers unless you purchase and install a sound card.

My desktop has integrated speakers and just recently stopped working, no sound. Cannot figure out why, everything seems in order but no sound. Purchased new from Best Buy, December 2009

Please do the following:
Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices and make sure that your settings are set to those speakers. If there are three different options try everyone and see if it works. If this does not work, please make sure you have the right sound driver installaed. You can install the driver's you may need at your provider's website
ie. Dell, Hp, Toshiba, etc...

Hope this solves your problem. Please don't forget to rate, Thanks!

No sound coming from the speakers

Make sure your speakers are connected correctly and powered up. If they are and still don't work, plug them in to your headphone jack. If they work then it's probably a sound card issue. If they don't work then it could still be a driver problem but it might also be your speakers. If you have another set of speakers try that. If the problem persists then do the following:

Check your computer for viruses, spyware, malware, etc. then, uninstall and reinstall your sound card drivers. Go to to download your drivers.

If they still don't work then you have a couple of options; Install a sound card if your sound card is integrated on your motherboard or replace your existing sound card if it is not.

You can also purchase a usb sound device from and save time, money, and trouble. Good Luck.

External speakers don't work but internal speaker works fine.

Try your speakers on another system to make sure speakers are working.

Make sure volume control on PC is not set on mute.

Make sure onboard sound is enabled in BIOS

Try re-installing the sound card driver.

If all this fails and you have a spare slot on your PC just purchase a new sound card for about $10.00 or so.

Sound not workimg

hello jflow4u,
Your problem could be several things. First thing I would check is the Bios setting for the o board sound system. You may fins several settings to choose from depending on weather you are using 2 speakers or 3 or more speakers. Your system setup paperwork should show you the correct selection and plugs to ues on the back of the computer. If you are using th 2 speaker system, then the green plug on the back of the computer is for the sound out and the pink is for the mic. in. If you are past this point the you my have to use the sound setup option after the system is running and check to see if all the appropriate boxes are unchecked so they will work on the sound console. Insure the speakers are on and working correctly and that you don't have a bad input cable between the computer and the speakers. If none of this doesn't correct the problem, turn off the onboard sound system and purchase a aftermarket sound card and install it in one of the open PCI slots and load the software and you should have sound back again. Regards, rcampsr

My Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers have stopped working. I probably downloaded some other software that overrode the Dell speaker installation. How do I reinstall the Altec Lansing ADA745 speakers?

The speakers are probably fine. What you probably need to do is to reinstall the sound drivers on your dell.

You need the model of your dell pc and go to the dell website and find download and install the sound drivers for your system.

The model of your pc will be needed if any more assistance is needed.

No sound,

You may be missing a sound card which can me purchased and installed professionally at any computer store. You also may want to check that the computer even recognizes the speaker by accessing the Speaker section in the Control Panel.

I have purchased from Walmart 2.0 CH USB POWEREDSPEAKER SYSTEM.  UC-280.On plugging in the usb cable I get nothing from theToshbia laptop (running Vista).  The power light onthe speakers does...

Did you get a software CD with this speaker set? Check the box and ensure that it says it's compatible with Windows Vista. I'm not aware of any speaker sets that wouldn't be, but it's always a possibility.

Also, more importantly, plug in the speakers before turning the laptop on. Many powered speaker sets will not work if you plug them in while the system is on.
