Printer Parts Worn Out

My Stylus Photo 820 reported an error message I haven't seen before. It said something like "Select printer parts are worn out - contact service representative" Has anyone seen that? Is it fixable, or is it time for a new printer?

This is usually a sign that the Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink counter has exceeded its limit. However, your two printer lights should also be flashing alternately.

If this is the case, the Waste Ink Pads should be replaced as soon as possible. You can overcome this problem temporarily by using the SSC utility - download from

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

and reset the Protection Counter. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation. However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer. If you want to have a go at doing this yourself, the 820 service manual can be downloaded from here:

810/820 http://www.mediafire.com/?m6ouftizois

If the printer lights are not flashing, you really need a technician to have a look at it for you.

Error code 0001002D is displayed and can not clear

Thank you for the inquiry.
This usually is a Epson Large Format printer error. You will need to replace parts to clear.

Just like any other mechanical equipment, a printer requires attention to keep it running smoothly. So, just like when the check engine light illuminates on your cars dashboard so does your printer, but instead of a spanner the error 0001002D will appear on your control panel LCD which is informing you that a maintenance procedure is due to be performed. This will normally involve replacing the parts which keep the print head clean, hence the error "cleaning unit END OF LIFE" and the waste pads. This procedure can be undertaken here at Large Format Repairs for the Epson Stylus Pro 3800 right upto the beast that is the Stylus Pro 11880.

You'll probably find that that the print head is worn out (according to Epson) and it needs to be replaced. It's cheaper to buy a new printer.

Epson Stylus Photo R350 giving a paper jam error message

An Epson service man (he was VERY kind to suggest this) told me to use a weak detergent solution on the rollers, NOT alcohol as that will dry out the material the rollers are made of. Although the problem has recurred a couple of times, it's worth repeating when necessary. I actually activate the 'print' command so it tries to feed in paper, while I FIRMLY hold a piece of fine cotton cloth stretched over a thin plastic ruler, which I hold down where the paper feed grabs its paper. The printer has a couple of tries to feed paper, reports an error message (because there was no paper) and I activate it again, thus exposing the WHOLE of the feed wheel to the cleansing cloth! WORTH A TRY!

I have an epson stylus photo R200. It has stopped working and has alternate red flashing lights. Error message says serviceable parts are nearing end of life. How do I get it to carry on working?

I'm not sure about the servicable parts. You might want to contact Epson.

I have seen "parts are nearing the end of life" which applies to the ink pads that absorb excess ink. In that case, the printer needs to be replaced or serviced by Epson or an independent service provider. If you just get the ink pads serviced, it may still fail soon. Then you can run the resrt utility. For more information and the reset utility: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp?cookies=no&com.broadvision.session.new=Yes

I hope this helps.

Hi Ikarp9090

If both lights are flashing, it usually means the Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink "protection" counter has exceeded its limit. You can restore your printer to a working condition immediately by using the SSC utility - download from:

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Install it, and double click the ssc printer icon in the bottom right corner (System Tray). Choose Configuration and set your printer type (820), then close the ssc window. Now right click the ssc icon in the sytem tray and choose Protection Counter. You should see that the current count is above the limit; then choose reset to set it to zero. You will need to fib about having changed the waste ink pads! Turn the printer off then back on again. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.

However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer.

If you decide to have a go at replacing the ink pads yourself, report back and I will provide further help. It is a pretty simple job once someone explains how to get the case apart!

If this solution helps you, please rate it; if it doesn't, please provide further information by posting a new comment.
