The bluetooth unit is optional sorry to say.
And because of the button, it deceived me too.

I searched for the solution.
And found the Acer original Bluetooth modules that would work.
(Part numbers: 54.AR102.001, or 54AR102001)

But unless you are comfortable opening your laptop,
your easiest option is to buy a small usb dongle.

I don't have a problem opening my case,
I do it for a living ;-)
So if that is your course of action, do a search on ebay for
"Acer 5520 4730 4930 Bluetooth 2.0 Module".
Or visit this guy's store: OldEgg
He sells an aftermarket unit for 24 bucks (compared to $64 for the originals)
And he is a powerseller with almost 12000 sales and 99.6% positive feedback.
(That's what I look for when buying on eBay, lol)

Anyway, I don't know the guy, but that's what I'm going to do with my Acer 4730.

Hope it helps someone!!
Laterz!!

Install a Bluetooth Device in an Acer Laptop
Installing Bluetooth on an Acer laptop can really broaden the capabilities, making it easier for you to get your laptop online and network with other electronic devices.
This networking tool adds to the perks of simplicity that laptops contribute to our everyday life.
This installation is rather simple because it only requires downloading the driver specified for your Acer computer.
The driver is the software that installs the Bluetooth device to your laptop.
To install the Bluetooth device on your laptop, you simply add the device's software to your laptop.

Open your Internet browser.
In the address bar located at the top of the browser, type "support.acer.com" to go directly to the Acer software site to locate the application software compatible to your laptop model.
You will be prompted to enter your country on the map picture displayed on the screen.
Click on your country, which should be listed as a link.
Click "Drivers and Downloads" located in the left pane of the screen.
The driver is the application's software that enables its functional capabilities on your operating system.
You must download the device's driver to install the function and apply it to your hard drive.
On the Drivers and Downloads page, select "Notebooks" in the first drop-down box. A list of laptop model names will appear.
Choose your Acer laptop's model name and click "Search."
The next page displays the generated results of drivers and software downloads that are compatible with your laptop.
Scroll through the list and click on the Bluetooth function download.
It should be called "Bluetooth Driver and Application."
Read the operating system listed under each version to ensure that you apply the right one to your system.
Click "Download File" listed under the operating system to begin the installation.
Your computer's file download screen will appear.
Click the "Save" option to begin the download.
Save the file in the default folder your operating system provides. When the download is complete, go to the file's location.
Right-click on the file to display the additional options for the file. Scroll down the menu and click "Extract All."
The extraction will reveal the setup application link and icon. Click the icon to begin the initial downloading process.
The download will begin, and once it is complete, another screen will appear.
Click "OK," and another screen will automatically appear.
It will prompt you to read and agree to the terms the license agreement.
Click "I Agree" to continue.
The last portion of your download will appear in the InstallShield Wizard.
The InstallShield Wizard will inform you that the download has completed successfully.
Click "Finish" to close the installation application.

Bluetooth aspire 9420

Hello,
Please do the following steps...
1. Download the bluetooth driver - 'Bluetooth_Broadcom_6.0.1.3500_VistaX86', its the one for vista but works for win7. After the drivers installed sucessfully the bluetooth still didn't work as the bluetooth hardware wasn't turned on, pressing the bluetooth button to the left of the keyboard didn't do anything for me.
The driver is available from the Acer website below under the Vista section, just click through the categories notebook/model/OS/drivers etc until you reach it.
http://global-download.acer.com/GDHome.aspx?SC=PA_6&LC=en
2. Next download Dritek Launch Manager - 'LaunMgr_Dritek_1.1.1.3_VistaX86' (this utility controls the assignment of shortcuts/applications to the other buttons on the keyboard) from the Acer website above, it'll be under the applications tab instead of drivers.
For some reason the Launch manager zip also includes another zip of the drivers for the Nvidia Video Card, I can't see why they're bundled together but it is Acer after all.
After the launch manager had installed the dedicated bluetooth button worked just fine first press, but bizzarely this application doesn't allow you to assign the bluetooth button, just the other 4 buttons above the keyboard.
But it clearly fixed my issue so it must have installed something which brought the bluetooth button back to life.
BTW the Launch Manager doesn't even have to be running for the bluetooth button to work.
Hope this fixes your issue.

Acer laptop cannot conect to handphone.

Check in your device manager to see if your bluetooth device is enabled. Also check in the Bios settings and in your power management to see if there are any settings there for the bluetooth.

If there are no entries for bluetooth in device manager, you may need to buy a USB bluetooth adapter. I know that some models of Acer laptops are bluetooth capable, but do not have the internal bluetooth adapter.

Keyboard stops responding after a powersave on laptop ACER 5715Z

The issue is that several of the Acer software products don't support Vista. You need to remove these programs.

Follow the instructions in this link
http://global.acer.com/support/winvista/t-faq.htm

Due to architectural changes to Windows Vista®,some Acer applications are not supported anymore. Below is a summary ofthese applications. Uninstall these applications before the upgrade.

Acer eRecovery Management The new version of Acer eRecovery Management, which is compatible with Windows Vista®,requires repartitioning your hard disk drive, causing data loss. As aresult, the Wizard will not reinstall the new version of eRecovery onyour computer under Windows Vista®. However, you will be able to find similar features in the built-in Backup Utility of Windows Vista®, including full system volume backup to a HDD or CD/DVD. Acer eAcoustics Management Windows Vista® supports similar functions of eAcoustics so Acer will no longer provide this utility for Windows Vista®. Acer ePresentation Management You can easily manage your external monitor settings via Windows Vista® Mobility Center. As a result, we do not support an upgrade to Acer ePresentation Management. Acer ePower Management Due to architectural changes to Windows Vista®,Acer ePower Management cannot be upgraded for some models. However, youcan easily manage your power settings via Windows Vista® Mobility Center instead. Acer ePerformance Management For notebooks only. Since Windows Vista® provides similar resource management functionalities, we will no longer provide this for notebook models with Windows Vista®. Acer Arcade™ Deluxe 3.x
Acer eNet Management 1.x
Acer eDataSecurity Management 1.x Due to architectural changes to Windows Vista®, these applications cannot be upgraded.

Alternately (not recommended) you can change your settings with the following method. I would recommend removing all the Acer software though as keeping them might cause problems.

Check under Advanced Power Options-> Multimedia Setting -> When Sharing Media. By default onBattery and Plugged is set to "Allow the computer to enter AwayMode" Changing this setting to "Allow Computer to sleep" should solve theproblem. On Battery the Away Mode "does" allow the computer to sleepproperly.
