I have had nothing but trouble with our Whirlpool Duet front loader, good thing we purchased the extended warranty because we have had numerous repairs even before the unit was a year old. The latest is a racket when in the spin cycle which has gotten so loud you cannot even hear yourself think! Whirlpool has the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval so I recommend contacting them and filing a complaint as I have. Send a copy to Whirlpool as well. They need to now these units are lemons!

I too have has numerous problems with our frontloader duet. The latest is the horrific noise during the spin cycle. The "authorized repair company" that whirlpool sent out said this noise is normal. It is so loud you can't have a conversation in the next room. I have also noticed oily spots on some of my clothes that came from the washer. Of course it is out of warranty.

Usually this is due to the tripod mount on the back of the drum cracking. Simply replacing the bearings does not help in most instances. The only true remedy is to replace the drum, along with the front and rear tubs. These are usually covered under warranty but the labor (6-8 hours) is a customer pay unless the unit is very new. Also, it is recommended that you replace the drain pump as well when performing this repair. It is a good idea to get this looked at as soon as possible as more damage can incur. I have seen them vibrate so violently that they break the control boards above the drum. If you give whirlpool an earfull, they may or may not offer some help on the bill.

The bearings that hold the drum on the shaft are faulty, the bearing seal eventually wears out, water gets in, the bearings rust and become loose due to the forces exerted when the machine is spinning. The burning smell is due to the bearings being loose so the drum is off centre (very noisy spin) they rub against the door seal which is rubber, when spinning this causes alot of friction and heat. The spots on the clothes are a common thing, the bearing fluid leaks into the drum causing oily stains, this might look like bleach but it isn't.
A bearing repair job is quite expensive (£80-150) if you can order the spare part bearings you will get the job done cheaper by just paying labour charges.

Loud noise, then not so loud, but now electrical burning smell and little draining

the smell is your clutch and the lack of draining is a clogged washer drain protector. see these at www.repairclinic.com drain protector is part 541811 and clutch is 2670. go there enter model number and scroll down to the red 100 click it and look for these part numbers.

The basket drive and the drive block will need replacing. The nut that holds the basket to the drive block may have come loose causing the drive block to 'jump' over and damage the tabs on the basket drive that causes the thumping as the spin cycle ends. To repair, you will need to purchase a basket drive and drive block. The agitator, balance ring, basket and transmission, will have to be removed in order to replace the basket drive. If less than 3ys old, consider contacting whirlpool for possible warranty concession.

You will need to have it checked by a qualified LG technician to see what is the deal with the burning odor.  And the noise is probably the washer not balanced correctly.
