HD72 - LAMP GOES OUT IN 30 SECONDS

Hi Joe. I was impressed with your knollege. I have the same problem that obviouly many others have with the projector 'running' but no picture. I am out of warrentee and Optoma suggested I sent it to their repair company to get fixed $$$. I spoke with an Optoma Tech and he said this is common on the HD72 and its a 'loose' circut board which needs to be fixed. I can not beleive that any of us have to pay for something that is obviously a manufacture defect. On a good note, after taking the lamp out, air cleaning, and remounting, everything seems to be working again. Thanks in advance for your comments. ST

I have the same problem but, I sent the projector back for repairs under warranty and it worked for 1 day and now it turns on for 30 sec. and the picture goes away. Could this be the same loose connection? and were the this connection insside the projector?

    Thanks

The projector is sensing the amp draw from the bulb and shutting down due to out of spec draw...replace the bulb.

What does it mean when all three lights, standby, temp and lamp, remain solid on Optoma HD72?

I suggest you go to eserviceinfo and search for the manual on this unit, sometimes this indicates a filter door open or bulb carrier door not closed. But to be honest without seeing the manual ?, however you didn't say if the unit was working despite the lights or not. Check the doors to all compartments and see if they are closed properly, other than this advice I suggest you seek an engineer to check it out

Hello, I am having a problem with my hd72/hd6800. My projector is on its original bulb and has about 500 hours over 5 years. Today i was able to turn it on, but the lamp wont light up. I hear the fan start...

Despite the relatively few hours on the lamp, the fact is it's over 5 years old. It is not uncommon for a lamp to age and be too weak to fire. Replace the lamp, you should be fine.

Lamp flashing, hd72 projector

In most projector menus there will be an option to reset the lamp timer, it's usually under the "settings" area of the menu. Try resetting the lamp timer and the light should stop flashing.

The projector switching off after 30 seconds

check the following :
1.does the lamp glow
2.do u get the connected image
3.if yes does the screen show temperature or overheat
4.if yes then one of the cooling fans do not work properly & hence the unit turns to standby & goes into protection
if no 1 does not happen, then check the lamp physically,it should not show melted or breakage.
if the lamp seems ok, then the ballast is defective!

The optoma hd72 projector lamp goes out after 30 seconds.. the big game is this weekend... what can I do?

I had this exact same problem. I have changed bulbs gotten 1000 or so hours from new bulb, changed the lamp driver and gotten about 600 more hours from new lamp driver. New lamp cost me $350, lamp driver cost me $120. Then I read on a page to try and flip it right side up, because I had it ceiling mounted upside down. I flipped it right side up and it works perfectly and has been working perfectly for 2 months now. I know it sounds stupid, but it actually worked for me, and it costs you nothing to try it. For some reason, gravity effects this unit.

I have taken apart my optoma hd72 to replace the lamp driver board. I have loosened the screws on the main board to remove it so I can get to the lamp driver board underneath but its seems to still be...

The board under the mainboard plugs into the top board like a cartridge. You have to disconnect all the cables from the mainboard then pull up on board to detact it from bottom board then you should see lamp driver in the back. Make sure hands are clean from static. Good luck.
