Advent Flat Screen with TV/AV Button Clicking & Lighting Intermittenly NO PICTURE
I always leave my TV on all day and I came one day to find the TV/AV button (that is also slight lit up purple) clicking and blinking about every 2 or 3 seconds. The power button does not work at all, none of the features: channels, volume, etc. work and I have NO picture. If the set is plugged in the TV/AV is clicking and the only way to stop it is by unplugging the TV. Any ideas from anyone? I do have a replacement universal remote for the set, but did not touch it after I left the set on the day it started doing this. I have also tried pressing about every button on the remote in case I did accidently change something. We have had some thunder & lighting storms lately, does this sound like it could have been hit by lightning? Any help or advise would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Re: Advent Flat Screen with TV/AV Button Clicking &...
The fact that its clicking on and off tells me that theres probably a short in the horizontal sweep/output circuit of the set. You see when the set starts up the power supply detects a large current surge and shuts down. Some sets will try three times if this happens and then stop till the power is pressed again. It sounds like this set dosent have that way of operation. Its going to need a technician to look and troubleshoot the problem Good Luck

Look at your remote for a button called "input options" and press that button while watching your screen to see the various choices available. Everytime you press that button, you should see a change on the screen from one choice of input method to the other. It should says things like "AUX, video 1, video 2, hdmi, AV - ect. Keep pressing that button until you see a picture of find the AV input method you want to keep and that should solve your problem.
If you have a cable TV line connected directly to the TV, an antenna or a cable box connected by coaxial cable, I would suggest running the automatic channel scan (AUTO-PROGRAM) again:
1. Press the AV key on the Advent remote control repeatedly until TV is displayed in one corner of the TV screen. If you don't have the Advent remote, use the TV/AV button on the front of the TV. 2. Press the MENU key on the advent remote or the front of the TV to open the on-screen menus. 3. Use the CH+/- keys on the remote or on the front of the TV to highlight PRESET then press VOL+ to select. 4. Use the CH+/- keys on the remote or on the front of the TV to highlight ANTENNA then use the VOL+ key to select either AIR (for antenna) or CABLE. 5. Use the CH+/- keys on the remote or on the front of the TV to highlight AUTO-PROGRAM then press the VOL+ key to start the automatic channel scan.
Once the channel scan is complete, the TV should automatically return to viewing the first channel found during the scan. Do not press the MENU key during the scan or the scan will not complete.
If you are using a cable/satellite receiver and it is connected to the TV by any means other than a coaxial cable, you do not need to run the channel scan. You should simply select the correct AV input using the AV key on the remote or the TV/AV key on the front of the TV (see step 1 above).
If you have done all of the above and you are still unable to get the channels on your TV, please post back for further assistance. You can reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question. Please let me know whether you are using a direct cable line, antenna or cable box, etc.
If the screen backlight is not on, first try adjusting the brightness.
Press TV/AV button on remote to select TV mode.
Press the MENU button on the remote.
Using the arrow keys (navigation buttons), choose picture mode and adjust the brightness and contrast.
If your TV screen is still not lighting up in a dim room, then the backlight is broken.

It's likely one of two things. There are drive transistors on the CRT board which control the output to the guns, the one that controls the red gun may be open, also check this board for burned resistors. It could also be a bad picture tube although this is less likely. If it is the tube, replacements if available are fairly expensive.
