Question about Packard Bell Easy One Silver 2120 Notebook

1 Answer

Packard Bell Easynote MZ36-U-024-UK

Computer appears locked up by previous owner, the seller. At startup I have a press F2 or F12 to enter multiboot. I do neither and it prompts for a password. I assume this is set by owner but have different explanations. I intend to open her up and remove CMOS battery. If all else fails I resell on eBay and cut my losses. Packard Bell do not respond to help. I am desktop savvy but laptops are not my game. Opening it seems to be a hurlde to cross. Help very much appreciated.

Regards

Andrew

Just removing the battery briefly may not reset CMOS. Look for jumpers near the battery clip and if there are some, remove the battery, short any jumpers nearby. Failing jumpers, I would suggest leaving it without battery for at least a day; some are using 'supercapacitors' and a battery.
Opening a laptop case can be daunting; be advised that after you have removed any screws from the under- & back-side, the mating plastic parts may still have molded parts that will need to be popped apart. If the slits between the mating parts will accommodate it, an old credit card will sometimes avoid damage to the plastic, otherwise a putty (or spackle) knife will work.
Make sure you are not carrying any static charge before poking around inside; it can be a killer. Touch any exposed sheet metal or a heatsink to equalize any charge.

You could search the internet for Bios Master passwords. Other than that, just pull the ac power, main battery and cmos battery and let the system drain.

If its a Windows password, then respond back for more instructions.

Packard Bell Easynote M5255 - Will not boot up

option f2, go into bios setup and see if the hard drive is listed or detected. Auto detect hard drive save and exit. System will reboot if the same error occurs then the hard drive master boot record is probably corrupt or the hard drive has totally failed.
