plz check your sound setting.for that instructions are: 1. go to your phone's "setting". 2. enter into "sound". 3. "ok" or "click" on "vibrate". 4.and if you want ringtone at received time than go to "phone ringtone" below vibrate option.
You are in the right place but looking at the wrong option, if you scroll down on the Normal profile you will see a message tone option, if you are not hearing a tone at the moment then I suspect it will say "No Sound". Tab this option and select Existing sound, you will then be able to navigate through the sound files on your phone and choose one of the Default Sounds (from the folder by the same name) or an MP3 or other supported sound file you have added to your phone.
If that doesn't solve your problem then you may have a faulty phone.
You can change the sound you get when sound alert is switched on by going to Settings > Touch Settings > Touchscreen Effect and choosing a different sound from the Tone option. You can also change the volume of the tone of severity of touch vibration here.
Try the following instructions, to personalize your Nokia E50! Profiles Warning: In the offline profile you cannot make or receive any calls, or use other features that require network coverage. Calls still may be possible to the official emergency number programmed into your device. To make calls, you must first activate the phone function by changing profiles. If the device has been locked, enter the lock code.
Select Menu > Tools > Profiles. You can adjust and customize the ringing tones, alert tones, and other device tones for different events, environments, or caller groups. To customize a profile, scroll to the desired profile in the list, and select Options > Personalise. Define the following settings: • Ringing tone — Select a ringing tone from the list, or select Tone downloads to open a bookmark folder containing a list of bookmarks for downloading tones using the browser. To listen to the selected tone, select Play. If you have two alternate phone lines in use, you can specify a ringing tone for each line. • Say caller's name — Activate the text-to-speech ringing tone feature. When someone from your contacts list calls you, the device sounds a ringing tone that is a combination of the spoken name of the contact and the selected ringing tone. • Ringing type — Select how you want the ringing tone to alert. • Ringing volume — Select the volume level of the ringing tone. • Message alert tone — Select a tone for received text messages. Or you may still go to this website for more info! http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/guides/nokia_E50
Go to Profiles, and choose a Customized Profile. Rename it to whatever you prefer. In this profile you can select your ring tone, message tone, volume, etc. I only had to do this once, and everything worked perfectly!

In order to use tones other than the presets for text messages, you have to put new .WAV files on your phone.
Any 8bit .WAV file will work; just connect with ActiveSync and navigate to your /Windows directory on your phone, and place the files there.
You will then be able to use them as text message alert tones.
