Question about Olympus Camedia C-770 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Battery/Power trouble My C-770 is 2 years old and I still have the original L1-10B batterys that came with it. The camera goes through periods of non-use so has not been used excessively. When I put in a newly charged battery the battery indicator says the battery is full, but then take one picture and the light blinks empty and usually dies with the lens out and the ISO numbers still on the screen. I switch the power button into the off position but it generally takes a min before it actually shuts down. I have this problem with both batteries whats my problem? Is this an expensive fix or a battery/charger problem?

I have the same problem. I have 7 of these LI-10B batteries and they all have a short life with a full charge. When the voltalge gets down to 3.6 volt the camera starts blinking the battery low charge. That sure is not much margin in the cameras operating range.

Using a little common sense I'd be checking the batteries first. You're going to need a new one sometime anyway so get a new one and try it out. Just make sure your battery charger is working first. It sure sound like battery problems to me.

Will not turn on

I assume you still can view and download the pictures from your camera to your computer.
When you have trouble charging the battery (ies) ready the following, because batteries get old and stop working. Sometimes they work for 10 years, but there are also batteries, that don't last one year.
Always be sure the battery is charged and suited for your camera. Check contacts of the battery and in the battery compartment of your camera. Dirty or oxidised contacts can be cleaned with a dry cloth. Never use sharp tools to clean contacts or anything in or on your camera.
Always charge the battery before using it for the first time, or if you have not used it for a long period. 3 months is a very long period.
Also check if the battery door is closed correct. Most cameras do have a switch connected to the battery door. If the switch does not work correct, it could be you can't switch on your camera.
If you have a multi meter, you can check your battery. After charging the voltage should be higher (few tenths of a volt) than the voltage printed on the battery.
If the voltage is slightly lower, you know thee will be not enough left when the battery needs to deliver some power.

I haven't turned the camera on for a couple of years. I've tried charging the battery, but I can't get it to power up. Do I need to replace battery or is it something else?

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Gateway wont power up the batt has been failing ,if pluged in the charging light comes on for a while then goes out if you try to start it tries then shuts down. could a bad batt cause this

If your battery is more than 2 years old, then it is a distinct possibility. Every battery type has a certain number of charge cycles (drain->recharge->drain) or time period. Lithium batteries run about 2 to 3 (tops) years. NiMH run about 10,000 charge cycles (or it could be 50,000 cycles if you know what to do). But if you're NOT using the original Gateway charger, then plug it into your laptop and see if it works. The 3rd party charger may have burned out the internal power components over time. In the worst case, you'll have to replace either the motherboard (hope you still have the product key!) or the motherboard's power connector, inside the laptop. At best, you might have to continue using the original power adapter. It will probably turn out to be a worn down battery, which needs replacing.

Olympus u770 sw 7.1 No power, battery fully charged, lens cover is open. No lights no screen nothing. Camera has been perfect for almost 4 years just shut down whilst being used hence lens cover open. Any...

Sorry to hear about your issue with the Olympus mju 770 SW. There's a couple of things you can check and try, before thinking about a repair or binning the camera and getting a new model.

1. Check the contacts on the battery are clean?

2. Clean the contacts inside the cameras battery compartment are clean?

3. Is the charger actually charging the battery? Try another battery or see if you can test the existing battery with a multi-meter to check there is some power in it.

It is fairly common for chargers to fail, so it's worth checking out but don't go spending money on a new charger unless you know it will fix your problem.

Hope this helps

My camera light comes on when i press the on/off button and the lense comes out all the way but then goes in abit, and beeps twice, i then click the power button again and the lense goes in, beeps again...

The problem you describe is power related, and is usually caused by one or both of the following:

1. Your batteries may need to be replaced. Batteries get old and lose their ability to accept and hold a charge, so they may be very low even with an overnight charge. Check the battery power with a voltmeter if possible, but batteries often need replacing if they are a year or more old.

2. Corrosion buildup on battery and camera contacts is a common problem, especially if a camera is idle for long periods. Remove the batteries and check all contacts for a white, green or blue buildup. Even if you don't see anything, wipe the battery contacts and the camera contacts firmly with a clean dry cloth. Heavy buildups, if present, may require cleaning with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper. After cleaning make sure that there is no buildup residue in the camera's battery compartment. Then install and charge the batteries.

Other possibilities, although rare, are problems with the charger or the camera's power circuitry. You can check the charger output with a voltmeter, but troubleshooting the camera's circuitry requires a professional camera shop.

You've done all Kodak asks you in their trouble shooting guide. As its less than a year old, I would recommend you go back to either Kodak or your retailer and request a refund or replacement under warranty.

DXG-301V Power won't stay on

The fact that your camera was not used for a year and assuming the batteries remained in the camera (uncharged?) after that long a period of time, it would be very likely the batteries have deteriorated and may need to be replaced. The first thing to try is charging the batteries if you have not already done so. Plug in the charger and allow at least 12 hours for the batteries to charge. If the camera still will not work, the original batteries have very likey lost their ability to hold a charge and will have to be replaced. To test this, without spending too much money, try inserting 4 Alkaline AA batteries in the camera (observe the battery polarity marked on the flip-top battery cover). If the camera works, you should replace the batteries with fresh NiMh rechargeable batteries and charge them before you attempt to use the camera. Allow at least 12 hours for the initial charge unless the battery manufacturer suggests otherwise. I would not recommend using any form of "rapid" or "quick" charge rechargeable battery. If you do, you will be paying extra for a convenience you will not use, unless you plan to use an external quick charger, since the camera is not equipped to support rapid battery charging.

Battery/Camera problem

Return the battery to Radioshack and try another brand of replacement battery. It is possible that the Radioshack battery is in stock for a long period of time. batterries have limited shelf life and it gets worse if they are left discharged for a long period of time.
