The reason for that is the front is the paper output tray, the rear tray is where you load the paper. Anything you print, copy, or scanned (to print) will come out the output tray (in front) and will pull paper from the rear tray.

The blinking is just an attention light so there's nothing to worry about that. Try adjusting your paper tray to the paper size you are about to use. Or try checking the duplexer panif its positioned properly. Hope this helps.

Output tray is closed

Hello.
This is the door on the very front of the printer. When down it acts like a paper tray to catch printed paper.
This door must be open before you start printing. to open it simply push the top of it slightly, and it will pop open.
I hope this helps, Regards GM

If you can remove the tray - have a look at it and it should come out without much force by pressing on the sides. If it comes out you may see the sensor inside that maybe is bent up and is not registering that the tray is open. If you see it you can bend it back down. You can also shoot canned air(with the tray in the out position of removed from the machine) and a piece of debris may come out. Use short squirts or the can gets very cold. All the office supply places and computer stores sell the cans of compressed air.

If none of the above helps, you can always communicate directly with Cannon at:

I have found them to be very helpful. Good luck..............................Pete

E, 0, 3
Paper Output Tray is closed / Paper jam

If the Paper Output Tray is closed, open it. The machine resumes printing.

If opening the Paper Output Tray does not resolve the problem, or if the tray was open to begin with, the paper may be jammed. Remove the jammed paper, reload paper properly in the printer, then press the Black or Color button.

I have Canon pixma MX310 and I just trying to set it up.I'm trying to print and there is message open paper out tray. What is that mean and how I can fix it

The printer will not print as long as the paper output tray is closed.
  1. Open the Paper Output Tray (2).
Put your finger in the rounded indent beside the Paper Output Tray and open it gently.

  2. Open the Output Tray Extension (3).
Open up and set the Output Tray Extension completely by pressing down the hollow on its front side.

  3. Adjust the position of the Paper Thickness Lever (4).
Set it to the right when printing on envelopes or T-shirt transfers, and left when printing on any other type of paper.

Error 1250 on PIXMA ip4300 printer. Despite open tray messae will not o away or allow printing to start.

Hello,

the error message means there is something wrong with the printer and if the problem is not attended to, the error message will not go away.

In this case, the error message showing on your canon ip4300 is related to a door problem. It has something to do with the front door of your printer. I think the front door of your printer is closed of which is supposed to be opened.

So, the solution is to Open the paper output tray of your printer and the problem should be solved.

Good luck.

Canon ip4300 printer says paper output tray is closed. wont prin

Its a defective printer you have that cant get out of paper output tray is close or that the paper output tray is not properly placed into the printer.

Try to reseat the output tray and let me know. If it does not work, you may need to send printer to repairs.

Canon PIXMA iP5300 InkJet thinks paper output tray is closed (it isnt) and won't print!

I've been having the exact same problem. Apparently its from a switch that doesn't signal to the printer that the output door is closed. On the printer, it looks like there should be a small plastic piece on the output door that pushes against the switch when its closed, thereby signalling that the door is shut. The switch is located just above an electronic switchboard that is directly behind the panel that has the two long rectangular buttons and the USB input on the right side of the front of the printer (when looking directly at the printer, that is). I have the cover off of my machine, but don't really know if the switch is supposed to be pushed down, or up, to signal that the door is closed. According the forums below, once I get that figured out, then it should be fixed. None of the forums clarify whether the switch is supposed to be pushed down or up. I'm no technical whiz, so it's not so obvious to me as it may be to other people. If it doesn't work, then I'll let you all know. If it does, you may never hear from me again as I'll likely forget all about this posting.

The most difficult part of it all is getting the cover off. Make sure you have a few flathead screw drivers, or something else that is about 3mm wide, thin but sturdy, and then insert them into the 4 slits in the printer before pushing hard to release the plastic hooks that lock the cover to the base of the printer. I'm sure I'm not making any sense, but a forumer at the xkcd website explains it pretty well. It just takes a bit of force. Hope it works!
