Question about Synology Disk Station DS207+ (DS207PLUS) Network Storage Server

1 Answer

Repeated hard disk failure and slow internal webserver

I've had this product for about 3 months. During that time the second hard disk has failed twice and been replaced with a brand new unit. My third hard disk failed this week - it was Western Digital rather than Seagate, and I have little confidence in the unit. Is this likely to be a fault with the Disk Station itself or is there anything else I can do apart from return for warranty replacement.

I've also found the unit to be incredibly slow when running as a webserver, taking over 15 seconds to generate a webpage using PHP and SQL compared with 2-3 seconds on my own PC's builtin webserver.

Functionality of the unit and associated software appears to be excellent apart from these two critical problems.

I have a simular problem with my DS207+. My second (sic!) volume failed especially when copying a lot.
But as I was using RAID1, I just repaired it and lived with it for the next months.
But now I want to have "Basic" drives.

I found this:

I will try and get hold of those cables.

If your third disk is failing again, it seems like a cable issue as well.

Since you have so often problems, I suggest to take a look at the controller also (firmware etc). If it's possible use another one (in case of independent controller). A good idea is to check for hard disk firmware update from official seagate site.

Smart test failed on the drive

A smart failure warning is an internal hard disk drive self-diagnostic that will help predict a failure of the hard disk drive. Any system that is displaying a SMART error should immediately have any important data backed up as the drive is not reliable and is impending failure if it hasn't failed already.
Resolution is hard disk drive replacement, Generally around $100 depending on size and speed of replacement HDD

I cant start my dell latitude d410, more precise i can start it in like 1 time out of 50 tries, regardless if i plug in battery or try just with ac power. it lites 1st led for main power, just flashes...

From what you describe, the boot failure is most likely a failing hard disk drive that is very slow to get up to speed. As far as the battery, since the D410 has been out of production for several years and the battery expectancy is about 30 months, the battery and HDD like both need replacement

Hard disk very slow and restart.

Seagate is known for hard drive failures. The S.M.A.R.T. feature may warn you that the drive is failing. This is not uncommon and is most likely the case of why it is going slow now. You should contact seagate ASAP to see if they can give you a replacement.

as the hard drive have movable parts it will fail one day.
If you defragement your hard drive monthly then it will take good care of your hard drive.
As the inspector is saying you should be ready for failure of your hard drive and you should back up your data.

Samsug HT-SK5 fails with 'Protection' on display

Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.

You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Samsung sp2004c drive failure

My guess is that your hard drive is corrupted. If you have any extra hard drives (external or internal), try replacing your current hard drive with that one, and see if that works. If it does, you may have to take your Hard Drive to a computer shop to have it recovered.

If that doesn't work, then something corrupted your operating system. I would re-install the operating system (reformat may not be necessary, but is always better than just a reinstall, although you do lose all of your information during a reformat), and then try.
