On iLife '11

Apple has added the iLife '11 suite -- released just few days-- to Mac Box Set offerings available at the online Apple store, and various other outlets such as Amazon. A basic $129 bundle includes iLife '11, Mac OS X Snow Leopard and iWork '09. The Family Pack edition costs $179, but includes licenses for five computers instead of just one.

iLife '11 makes major changes to its three core programs, for instance implementing new fullscreen views in iPhoto, and effects macros in iMovie. GarageBand has gained tools for fixing rhythm and note duration. Some fullscreen modes in the suite notably borrow design cues from the iPad, mimicking things like the tablet's photo stacks and iOS-style menu bars.

But, recently a thread began discussing iLife '11 and the problems associated with upgrading, a poll is also included showing that 33.33% of people who have upgraded have had no issues to report. And one forum goer declared that they've had enough of Flash and sparked a rather lengthy debate about the practicality of Flash.

Would I really see a difference? Would we really need the new special thing?

Just days after issuing a quick fix for a critical library bug, Apple has rolled out the first major iLife '11 upgrade with iPhoto 9.1, which restores the ability to create and order calendars, a feature that went missing on the initial release. It also fixes an issue that prevented videos downloaded from MobileMe or Flickr from importing correctly into iPhoto events, and adds some holiday-themed letterpress card options. The update addresses only the version of iPhoto that shipped with the new iLife '11 suite.

The loss of the calendar-creation option had sparked much hue and cry among iPhoto users, and it remains unclear if the omission was unintentional or not. Apple's web page for iPhoto '11 has already been updated to specifically mention creating calendars.
The update, which is recommended for all iPhoto 9 users, also addressed a video-importing bug that affected MobileMe and Flickr users. iPhoto 9 was one of the three significantly upgraded applications in the iLife '11 suite, adding new full-screen management options, new email templates, new slideshows, improved integration with Facebook and improved book printing.

As for me, I like iMovie. It makes it easy to import, select, edit and export (in several formats) our clips; and the speed at which we can make such good-looking movies with transitions and effects removes the chore aspects. So I can <a href="http://www.bestdvdconverter.com/guide/dvd-to-avi.html">convert dvd to avi</a>/mp4 then make short movies, just a personal preference.

Lastly, to support the launch of iLife '11, Apple has implemented what it calls the iLife '11 Hardware Up-to-Date Program. Instead of having to pay the usual $49 for an iLife '11 upgrade, people can potentially get the software for just $7. Those who bought a Mac with an earlier version of iLife between October 1st and the 19th must submit an order form by November 19th. For people buying a Mac with an outdated iLife on or after the 20th, a 30-day post-purchase window exists.

In the case of multi-system purchases, people can opt either to get one upgrade kit per computer, or buy a smaller number of licenses and request "right to copy" permissions. Qualifying Macs must come from the online Apple Store, one of the company's retail locations, or an authorized reseller. But I think that there are always ways to fix that. DVD, for example. Some people like to go to the cinema, whereas others like to watch movie at home. Now I put dvd to ipod/ipad with a <a href="http://www.bestdvdconverter.com/">dvd converter</a>, and it's easier to enjoy on a trip. Hi-tech electronic products can make us live more comfortably.

My iphoto icon on deck has a ciricle with a line though it which means no. I can not open iphoto. it states it could be damaged .

Hi there, there is a easy fix to this problem. What you are first wanting to do is to make a backup of your iPhoto library. The default place is User(Your Home Folder) / Pictures/ iPhoto Library. What you are going to want to do is right click the iPhoto library and select duplicate. Then just click and drag that new iPhoto library you just made to the desktop. Now what you want to do is to install iLife again. Just insert the iLife disk and follow the on screen instructions. Once that is done you should be able to open iPhoto again. If for some reason when you open iPhoto and your photos are not there, then close iPhoto and you want to place the new iPhoto Library that we put on the desktop into U ser(Your Home Folder) / Pictures/ Now drop the iPhoto Library and make sure that it is called iPhoto Library and not iPhoto Library Duplicate, if that is the case then right click the file name and click get info, then just rename it iPhoto Library. Now you are done, open iPhoto and you should have all your photos again.
If for some reason this still does not work, then once again close iPhoto, this time we are going to open it agin but while we open it we are going to hold the option key down too. A menu should pop-up asking you what library you would like to use, all you want to do is select the one that says is located in User(Your Home Folder) / Pictures/ iPhoto Library.

I hope this helps you, Justin

My iphoto got problem in opening. i cant open it. the " iphoto just quit unexpectedly" window kept popping out whenever i tried clicking Reopen.

You could try the application iphoto library manager which can be found at http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ this can allow you to rebuild corrupted iphoto libraries. I am not sure if the free version has this facility but the full version costs about $20 and is well worth it to keep your iphoto up to scratch. Hope this helps.

Lost iphoto back catalog after an import, is there anyway to recover these photos?

the back catalog of your images are not gone. Since the pictures you have uploaded form your camera to iPhoto all those files are still there. All you need to do is re-load the images into the library of iPhoto.
1) Start iPhoto, then in the menu goto File / Add to library..
2) Then a file browsing window will open, all you need to do is locate the folder in which u had specified to iPhoto. (Default location for iPhoto is located at MainHD / Users / Username / Pictures / iPhoto Library
3) Once you have located the folder or folders you wish to add to your library or catalog just press import. And all the images should show in the catalog.
4) if you have more pictures saved in another folder, then repeat steps 1 to 3 again. but in step 2 locate the folder or drive you wish to import from.

Getting a borderless print

Try this if that helps:

Using iPhoto to create borderless prints To use iPhoto to create borderless prints, please follow all of the steps below:
  1. While logged in as an Administrator, install the latest Canon printer drivers onto your computer (with Mac OS X v10.2 or later as the operating system) and select the appropriate printer as the default.

  2. Launch iPhoto.

  3. From iPhoto, select and open the image you wish to print. (Please refer to the Apple web site for instructions on how to use iPhoto.)

  4. When you are ready to make a print, select from the Menu Bar 'File: Page Setup'.

  5. The Page Setup dialog will appear.

  6. Select the following settings:

    1. Settings: Page Attribute
    2. Format for: <Select the Canon printer you wish to use>
    3. Paper Size: 4x6 (borderless)
    4. Orientation: <Select the matching orientation>
    5. Scale: <Select the appropriate scale>

  7. Select 'OK' and the Page Setup dialog will close.

  8. From iPhoto, from within the Constrain section of the browser window, select from the pull-down menu (i.e., the button directly above the Constrain label) either '4x6' or '4x6 Portrait'. Then, using your mouse cursor, mouse-over the image and when the Cross-Hairs are over the upper left-hand corner of the portion of the image you wish to print, click and drag from the left to the right in a downwardly diagonal motion, releasing the click at the end of the image selection.

  9. Click the 'Crop' button.

  10. From the Menu Bar, select 'File: Print', select your options, then select 'Print'.

  11. This selection, revealed in the iPhoto window will now print as a borderless, 4x6 print.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance,
please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to

EPSON 1800 PROBLEMS WITH NEW IMAC

While you may have installed it, the generic driver may be selected. Here are all the steps to get you back up.

To remove any previous Epson printer driver files and get a good working install of the latest download for the Intel Duo Core, do the following:
REMOVE FILES
1. Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
2. Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
3. Double click on the PRINTERS folder.
4. Drag the EPSON folder to the trash can.
5. Close any open windows.
6. Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
7. Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
8. Double click on the RECEIPTS folder.
9. Delete any "Epson" receipts. Close back to desktop.
10. Open the OS X "Printer Setup Utility".
11. Select the "Printer Setup Utility" menu at the top of your screen and click "Reset Printing System...". Confirm resetting.
12. Close all open windows and restart your computer.
DOWNLOAD
If you have not done so already, use the following steps to obtain the download for the new Intel Duo Core driver:
1. Go to http://support.epson.com
2. Select Printers then Inkjet then your printer model.
3. Under "Drivers and Downloads" select Macintosh.
4. Download only the driver marked for the Intel Duo Core system.
Printer Driver v3.0aAs
Intel-based Macs with OS X (v10.4.4 or later)
epson11769.dmg - 12.4MB - posted on 02/06/06
Installation instructions:
1. Double-click on the "epson11769.dmg" file and follow prompts to create an "epson11769_r1800_printer_driver_30aas" disk image on your desktop.
2. Open the disk image. Double-click the "SPR1800Series 30a" installer icon to begin the installation.
3. Follow prompts to complete installation. Restart Mac once the install is complete.
Do the following to add the printer once the new downloadable Intel Duo Core driver has been downloaded and installed properly:
1. Connect printer.
2. Open Printer Setup Utility.
3. Click ADD.
4. Ensure you are on the Default Browser window.
5. Highlight printer as it appears under Printer Name.
6. For "Print Using" select "Epson Stylus R1800" if this automatically appears on the list. If this does not appear, select OTHER (not "Epson" - which links you to GIMP drivers, which we don't recommend or support). NOTE: if you are using a firewire connection, the printer name may appear as a letter only - ie "E" for "Epson". This is normal.
7. A new window opens where you can Browse to the hard drive location of:
HD > Library > Printers > Epson > Inkjet Printers
(This location contains all the Intel Duo Core Epson driver plugins, be they resident or downloaded.)
8. Highlight/Select the plugin for your printer model in the Inkjet Printers folder, then click OPEN.
9. Use the up/down arrows at the end of "Print Using" again to (re)select the printer's name, which will now appear at the TOP of the "Print Using" list.
10. Click ADD. The new downloaded driver will now be added on the list.
11. If there are other printers on the list, ensure the Epson is made default before testing.
When you are working with a printer model which supports borderless and/or roll paper printing options, you will be able to select these options in the program you are printing from as you set up your print job.
1. Once you have an image or file open, go to File > Page Setup.
2. For "Format For" select the Epson printer name (rather than "Any Printer").
3. Select the appropriate Paper Size. If your printer supports different layout features, each paper size will have several different options. For example, the 4x6 paper size will have an arrow pointing right which offers choices of 4x6 Borderless, 4x6 Standard-Minimize Margins, etc. Pick the paper type plus layout/margin option you want to use here.
4. Click OK on Page Setup. You are now ready to print.
