My TV will turn on but the screen has no picture.  It only displays a black and white checker pattern.  Sound is okay.

I have the same issue, I am going to try the menu button. I tried changing devices with no luck.

Exact same black/white checker pattern; can't pull up any menus. Switched inputs (guessing since screen went completely black) but still comes up with checkered screen. Audio is fine.

Sounds to me that the menu is in convergence adjustment mode. Try the menu key on the remote and follow the prompts.

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. Here's a video that will help you find where the DMd chip is located : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jr_9A5Xd2Q Have a blessed one!

I don't know what model you have,but... I have a 50v715 and it was doing the same thing and it turned out to be the lamp. So if you have not replaced the lamp in a while then it could just be it time. Hope this is helpful.

Blak & white checkered Pattern on the screen.

This is what it sounds like a bad board. Check to see if you have Composite Video, Do you have a DVD player? If you do then look in back and see if you can hook up the component input(Y Pr Pb) to your set with component video cables. If you have color there then yes. The board is a 934C118001 part #. Check on it's price. Hope this helps
