Question about Rio CE2100 MP3 Player

1 Answer

Volume control My rio player fell to the ground and now the volume button is pushed into the player, I think I could fix it, I don't think any parts are broken, but I can't get it back out, is there any way to take apart the Rio player without causing irreversable damage or having things pop out that I can't put back in, or if I take it apart will I not be able to clasp it back together? Right now I can play the player but the sound is extremely low, or is there anyway that I can turn the volume up through hooking it up to my computer, any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Rio carbon can figure out how to get the download into the rio

The 3.04 developers cut firmware gives you a volume control via the bottom of your menu. You can get it from:

follow the link.

Hope this helps,
Mowcius

Btw, i will also be posting a tip on how to fix a broken scroll wheel on a rio carbon soon so have a look in a couple of days (maybe even tonight) and i should have done that.

Opening the Rio Carbon to replace the volume button

The easiest and least damaging way to open the Rio Carbon is to start at the bottom of the player and pry it open a little until you can see the tabs. You have to push those to release them. Work you way around clockwise and there are tab a little further into the player, you have to pull the bottom of those out to release them. I did it last night and was able to repair the volume wheel and get the player back together and it works.

Volume Control

The wheel is attached to its actual contol in 2 microscopic places to allow the wheel to break rather than a major destruction of internal working parts. Should you hit the player in this area you can either live with the player stuck in this volume level or undertake an extremely complicated repair job.

Volume knob damaged

My first sons rio c2100 did the same thing . I needed to return it in the mail for the warranty exchange for a refurbished one.Is your warranty still in ? I hope so . If not , they will tell you to buy a referbished one for 99.00 .CRAZY !!! I had bought 2 (for my 2 sons). Now, my second son's power button won't work. The button is really loose and wiggley. He dropped it from only 4 inches onto a carpeted floor .I cannot find anyone to fix this for me . The design on these are absolutely stupid. Do you have any suggestions for me??

Nick try taking it to your local electronic repair shop. They maybe able to repair it for you at a price substantially below what a new one might cost.

Rio Carbon powers off

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

Repairing the interior by taking off the exterior

Manufacturers puposely make these items hard to get into so that people who don't know what they're doing keep out. So it's either bite the bullet and try it yourself or take it someone who knows what he's doing. The choice is yours. If prying it apart worries you that much then the easy answer is don't.

Rio Carbon Repair

I think you should keep looking for another solution, but what i know is that for out of warranty carbon players you can't get it fixed through rio/sonic blue, they will only replace it for a new one/remanufactured one for 99$. Here's a link to a previous post of someone who had the same problem as you: http://www.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?thid=101466&prdid=230965 Good luck
