Question about Trend Micro Antivirus 2008 for PC (733199435772)

Virus scan starts but never gets beyond 0%

My father-in-law has Trend Micro Antivirus 2007 (which he renewed in April instead of buying 2008, but 2007 wasnt an option for a product on here) on his computer. He's almost completely computer illiterate and relies on my husband and I for most technical stuff. Recently he left me a msg saying he was having trouble with the virus scan. When you click 'scan now', a separate window comes up like normal and supposedly it starts scanning. However nothing ever comes up where it usually shows the current file being scanned, and the progress bar never gets past 0%. The elapsed time timer keeps on though. I left it on today for over 4 hours and still got nowhere. When you click the stop button that's sposed to stop it, nothing happens, and eventually you have to force it to close using the task manager if you want out of it. Anyone have any ideas?


Btw, if it helps he also has Spysweeper for spyware, and that works just fine.

    The Trend Micro Antivirus has been scanning all day and does nothing.

    We need to scan and complete as it should. What do I do?

First thing you can try is to disable/shut down the Spysweeper and then try scanning with TMA.

If that still doesn't work, I would uninstall the Spy sweeper and try scanning with TMA.

If that still doesn't work, uninstall TMA, and then reinstall the TMA.

Most A/V do a scan during installation. Watch to see if it works.

After reinstalling the TMA, make sure you run its update program (if it didn't during installation) and then run another scan.

I have microtrend antivirus on my pc using op system Vista. when it scans it may identify threats and then says its cleaning and takes hours. I have had to power off . pc for it to stop. when it does...


It not a good antivirus....may be it itself contain viruses...So you should uninstall it and install the following recommendations.. Norton Antivirus, Quick heal (Best) Avast, Or AVG......or Kespersky..is also excellent. You can get their trail Versions from brothersoft.com for free...If you will Like then You can buy full version..

How to disable/enable email scanning in Trend micro antivirus


By default, the incoming and outgoing mail scan functions are enabled in Trend Micro Internet Security. To enable or disable mail scanning, do the following:

For Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2009 and Trend Micro Internet Security 2009 and Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 and Trend Micro Internet Security 2008

1.Open the Trend Micro Internet Security main console by doing any of the following:

Click Start > Programs or All Programs > Trend Micro Internet Security > Trend Micro Internet Security.

corner of your screen.

2.On the left panel, click Virus & Spyware Controls. Under Protection Against Viruses & Spywaresection, click Settings

3.Under Check for the following threats section, put a check mark in the check boxes for Threats in incoming mail and Threats in outgoing mail to enable mail scanning. To disable it, remove the check marks.

Here's a link to one of the better anti-virus programs. I have used this one for several years and it does the job. You may have to uninstall Trend Micro and then install A.V.G. as most anti-virus programs will conflict with each other.

Program will not update virus files; cannot exit program, cannot uninstall


You may have got a virus on your computer that has disabled the virus program. Trend Micro is a good program and I use it but no virus scanner is 100% safe even if you keep it updated often. You may have installed a program that has disabled it. First shut off windows restore in the control panel. Then re-boot the computer and press F5 when the computer is booting up and this will bring up a menu. Then boot windows into safe mode with networking. Then see if Trend will update virus files and run a complete scan. If it can't the go to www.trendmicro.com and use their housecall program to do a complete virus scan on the computer. If no virus is found then you will need to try to find the program that caused Trend to stop working and remove it. Do you have more than one virus scanner installed like spysweeper. If you do then you will need to un-install that program. Then reboot computer and try to re-install trend.

Trend micro security system just reported high risk spyware "SPYW VIRTUMONDE" found on computer. suggests "get help" which does not lead to solution. neither do other suggestions i.e. remove, delete etc....


You may call Trend Micro's tech support any time day or night without charge. I would suggest you do that.

You can click on the help & support menu item. Get the number to call.
I have used their help before and am pleased with the outcome.

I paid to renew my subscription but I didn't follow the links on my computer and my computer says it has expired but i've got the receipt to say i've paid for it.


According to Trend Micro,"After successfully purchasing a renewal, your current expiration date will be extended. This may take between 24 and 48 hours to take effect"

It says if it does NOT update after 48 hours, go to this webpage and follow instuctions...

Tried installing trend micro on my laptop and said there was a security threat and they needed to scan for viruses first and it said there was nothing detected then another message popped up and said...


Trend Micro is not a very good anti-virus/spyware company, if i was you, i would use AVG or something like it, AVG seems to be the only true antivirus, i have seen programs like AVAST that just deam files as viruses because of the words in the file name. (usually containing CRACK or KEYGEN. best advice i can give, either return it and download a free one, or format your computer to remove any viruses on it.

remove the current antivirus. it may be defected or currupted. Install the original version of any antivirus properly.dont use the piarated cd's. it affect on ur pc system.
