Question about Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Garmin Nuvi 660 Can not locate Sattelites

My Nuvi approximately 18 months old lost connection for about 1/2 an hour when travelling from Conneticut to New Jersey. Every since then it has taken longer and longer to acquire the sattelites when I turn it on. Now is just sits there in acquire Sattelites mode. I did a master reset, a complete reset, upgraded all the patches on the website and still nothing.

Garmin's solution is send it back with $225 and we will take care of it. After paying over $600 dollars for the unit I expect a lot more.

    Jim,

Thanks a lot the for the solution that you provided it completely cleared up my problem. The only comment is that for the Nuvi 660 to get into maintenance mode you have to hold your finger over the upper left-had corner. My system is back working as normal. Now why couldn't Garmin technical support suggest this solution.

    Regards

    Walter R.

Please read the solution that resolved this problem for someone else. Most likely, you have already tried this. However, the antenna of your Nuvi 660 is the same as the 3xx Nuvi series. I know this because I have worked on them.

If the above procedure does not work for you, the entire antenna assembly will need to be replaced.
The other option is to purchase an external antenna for your Nuvi and plug it into the external antenna port (gold connector) on the Nuvi antenna assembly.

Best wishes,
- Jim

    Hi Walter,

I'm glad it worked for you. :) I think the $225.00 speaks for itself as to why they didn't suggest it.

    Best wishes & safe travels,

We have no receiving sattelites anymore on our NUVI Garmin 660. The bars in the left upper corner of the Garmin indicates no receiving at all. We are not surrounded by trees or high buildings.

Updating your satnav's operating system software might help.
  • Download and install to your computer the latest version of WEBUPDATER from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
  • Connect your satnav to your computer with the mini usb lead
  • Run the webupdater program. It will find updates. Select them all and download them. When they are installed you'll get the option of downloading optional updates. It's not necessary to download these unless you wish to.
I hope this solves your problem.

I lost my pin for my gamin nuvi

You have three options for unlocking a PIN locked Garmin:

1 - Enter the correct PIN
2 - Take the unit to the location at which the PIN was entered
3 - Send the unit back to Garmin

Unfortunately, these are your only options as this is a security feature to prevent unauthorized use of a stolen GPS.

Garmin nuvi 350 9 months old

Have you ever tried updating the firmware with garmins webupdater?
Have you had this issue with a fully charged battery.
Do you hear anything rattle in the device when you shake it....I had a spIII color with similar issues, found out that one of the circuit board mounting screws was travelling around in the case.
If this is the case, and you are tech savvy you could open the GPS and probably find the culprit. If not ship it back to Garmin, for it is still under warranty.

Garmin nuvi won't turn on

folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa
