Question about AcerView 77E 17" CRT Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor picture is distorted

Suddenly, the screen on my monitor bounced, and now is shaped like an hour glass. All the icons are out of focus, the tool bar with the start key, clock etc. can not be seen. If I hit "proporties" or anything else, the screen bounces, and I cant even read the popups because they are so out of focus. One minute the screen looked fine, the next minute this. Can you help?

This is an indication your monitor is on the way to failure: You can do a "degauss' which is usually powering the monitor off and then pushing the degauss button in and holding it while powering the monitor back on.

The picture on my Sony is shaped like an hour glass

There is an apparatus on the back of your picture tube called a yoke. This distributes your picture on your pic tube uniformly. If this or the circuits enabling it malfunction, then you will get distortion-namely an hour glass shape.Tv has to be trouble shooted.

No power in the Monitor

Sounds like a fairly drastic fault, possibly in the power supply section. Probably not worth fixing with the cost of new LCD screens, but maybe worth asking at a local repair place.

My screen doesent fit and it is hourglass shaped it is driving me nuts

The problem is called "pincushion distortion" and happens because of the way CRT monitors work. There is circuitry in the monitor to correct the display, but it's not working in your monitor. Often this is because of bad solder connections to transistors in the circuit (they get pretty hot sometimes and can cause the connections to degrade). It can also be due to failure of those parts.

If you are comfortable working with electronic soldering and want to try your own repair, open the monitor and examine the board for bad connections. Repair any that are grainy or obviously cracked. Typically the parts that need resoldering are mounted on metal heatsinks so you have a place to start looking.

I don't recommend paying a shop to repair this. New 17-inch LCD monitors are so inexpensive today that it's better just to replace the CRT one.

My screen suddenly gets distorted.

Test your laptop by connecting its video ouput (base of the computer at the back) to a known working monitor. Then power on the laptop and see if the known working monitor behaves the same way your laptop's monitor does. That will narrow down the possible causes.

The screen flickers into hour-glass figure.

It's the tube going out. You need to replace it. If you want to stay with CRT monitors, you should be able to pickup a used one for around $10.00 on Craigslist.

this is a little known porblem Dell has. Dell is not tell anybody.
I don't know if this is going to fix the monitor for the long haul, but it should help in the mean time.
grable the frame of monitor with both hands, apply some pressure, not too much (you will break the glass). change location and do the same thing. the screen will come back at certain location, when you apply the pressure to the frame. this is because some connection inside of the frame is coming loose with time.

good luck
if that doesn't fix the proble, please post.
