Convergence

The middle of the screen (from top to bottom) the convergence is fine. As you move to the left or right of center the convergence gets progressively worse. Any help? The projo setup on the customer menu has no effect.

- I changed the two convergence ic's and I have the same problem as before. I don't have a schematic for this product. Would anyone know the location of the fuseable resistors/part nos. or any other possible solution?

Jul 19, 2006

- An added oddity to the situation is that I can use the convergence setup and get a good result with alignment. But, after you exit the menu and go to pix the convergence problem is there.

-   I have a Samsung HCM422W 42", The pefect focus does not work at all. I can manually correct the convergence but after turning the set off and back on the problem is back. For the most part the problem is with the red convergence and only on one side (the left). Some of the cross hatches are also rotated a bit, so those cannot be aligned using the manual mode. Any suggestions?-   Craig Wir

Theres two parts to the convergence IC's, as after all all they are ar analog stereo audio amplifiers. One or both of one sides of the ICs are bad and probaly blew the fuseable resistors along with the IC's. This is not a consumer repair. theres soldering i9nvolved as well as alighnment after the ICs are replaced. Not to mention the Hi Voltage inside these sets. Please refure this repair to an experienced repair person. Good Luck

If the convergence adjustment is not moving the beam chances are the convergence IC(s) are defective. If you know how to solder and understand TV safety you may be able to fix it. With power disconnected remove the back. You should see two large heat sinks with large ICs (3 by 6 inches) with about 30 leads going through the circuit board. Numbers on the ICs should usually be something like STKxxx-xxx or some variation with x being a number. These ICs control the position of the three beams. If they go bad you can't adjust one or more beams. Replace them both as you don't want to get in there again in 3 months. Cost is not that much. http://www.tritronicsinc.com or http://www.partstore.com should have them at a reasonable price. Before replaceing the ICs look at the circuit board closly for cracked solder joints. Resoldering any bad joints might just solve your problems and avoid replacing the ICs. Good luck and remember safety.

- You did not say in your original post that the unit would perform a convergence but not hold it. Your problem is a different problem and I would have given you this answer if I had known previously that the convergence was working but not storing the settings. Obviously as you have changed the convergence ICs and the problem still exists it was not them. Your problem is the digital convergence box where the information is stored. It will be a large shiny metal box with a very large IC in it generally located on the signal board. Usually the circuit board or sometimes the entire box just plugs in to the board. Other times you have to unsolder the box from the board. If you go to http://www.servicemanuals.net you can get the service manual for $24.00 US. If you go to http://www.tristatemodule.com you should be able to get the convergence box. If they do not have it they can either fix yours or get one. Good luck and next time ask the correct question.

In most Projection TVs including mine, you have to press a specific key on remote or TV to save convergence settings. Simply exiting menu will not save the values you chose during adjustments.
In case of Sharp 55R-WP4H it is preference D you press to save convergence settings. Please refer to user manual for your TV. This could be your problem.

After adjusting convergence on Sony, I believe you press mute then enter to save the configuration or write to memory.
