Thought I had a convergence problem - red is still broke
I thought I had run into the famous convergence IC problem. I purchased and replaced the convergence ICs. Now when in the grid, I cannot get the red to align. It looks okay in the center, but gets way out of whack on the edges. Any suggestions?
I'm hopeful that perhaps there's just something I missed - but if this means replacing the red gun - this set is headed for the bottom of the nearest lake.

I dont think you have problem with Red Gun.
One of your Convergence IC is faulty with 2 RK series Resisitor(Low Value) in Convergence
Amp Borad. If you changed IC look for RK series Resistor (may be 3.9ohm/2.7ohm)

Hi, Problem cause is red convergence output chip failure that will be replaced to fix the issue. If you have experience of electronics stuff repair and can replace parts in circuit board as it requires soldering work with proper tools then can replace convergence output IC in your tv by yourself. Let me know if you have additional question. Thanks.
the famous codeerror 2- 2is for fault in power supply or faulty power supply board. this has to be checked. anderror 2-3is fault in convergence ic.so both the error codes are near to each other.so check out both options. i advise first replace the convergence ic on the board and check.the cost of each convergence stk ic is near to $15 .there are two such ic on the convergence board and both has to be replaced.then check out.if the problem is same go for power supply board replacement. the ic which you have to remove and replace is stk 393-110 both the ic looks same anve same number . you can get the required board and components at ----- www.partstore.com -------- or from ------ www.radioshack.com ---- --------- if you are not familiar with doing this you can get it done by local tv repair technician familiar with this model tv. ----------- This will help.Thanksplease keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya.

replace ic chips pt# stk392-120 or stk392- 150 and there are 12 resistors located near ic clips pt# 6r8 ( color code blue - gray - gold - gold ) board location no#s 3149 thu 3160 if you look close you may find two resistors discolored as i found on my convergence circut board , also use heat sink compound on new ic chips , take your time to mark all wire connectors going to board from tv , also use .022 dia gage rosin -core solder and a 15- 25 watt soldering iron you may have to adjust the red - blue convergence afterwards my tv set is 3 yrs old also ( thanks holbert )
Usually there are 2 convergence IC's, labeled STK392-110. Each IC has 3 channes. Each color needs to be corrected 2 ways, vertically and horizontally, so 6 channels are needed. usually one IC does red, red and haf of green while the other IC does the other half of green, blue and blue. If the red colors are off, change the IC closest to the red jack. If the blue is off, change the IC closest to the blue jack. If the green is out, you have a 50/50 shot at replacing the correct IC. It is recommended to use the STK392-150 when replacing the IC's so it might not be a bad idea to go ahead and replace both with the newer numbers.
