To have the best resolution for vista, you have to have a directX-capable graphics card and a min of 128MB of graphics memory. Check if your vga has windows display driver model and hardware pixel shader 2.0 support

MAC address need not be changed to connect to internet, unless the cable modem you have is configured in such a way that it only connects to a particular MAC address.

The solution is to change the settings in the cable modem or the router you have.

Please specify the following details
1. if you have windows click on start and click on run(for xp) and type cmd and hit enter
2. type ipconfig and hit enter
3. Find out what is the IP address specified there it should be in the format - 192.x.x.x
4. Note down the address against default gateway

Do the same thing for both the computer and then let us know so that we can narrow down the issue and suggest a better solution

Sound Coming From BOTH SPEAKErs and headphones

Sound emanating from both the internal speakers and headphone/earphone while the later is engaged could mean a factory defect in your speaker device. Upgrading your OS from XP to Vista may not solve your problem. However, since the service center technician will probably insist on his diagnosis and recommendation, you may need to upgrade your OS just to prove your point.

Please tell me the make and model of your computer and what operating system you are trying to run. I have access to all the drivers for every make and model and I will send you the link where you can get them once you send me the information I need first. If your computer came with Vista there are no drivers for your wireless card or your VGA card for XP. If you want to run Xp you can partition your hard drive into 2 logical drives and load Vista on one and XP on the other in a dual boot configuration. Then you will need to purchase an external USB wireless thumb adapter for accessing your wireless networks when you are using the XP operating system. When you boot in Vista your computers wifi will work fine. The hardware manufacturers are being forced by Microsoft not to release drivers for XP for new equipment under threat to pull licensing for Vista. This is the only way to get around it, unless you are capable of writing your own .inf driver files for the hardware. If you need my help feel free to contact me and I will help you further. This is Microsoft's way of strong arming everyone to migrate to Vista. I run dual boot configurations on all my equipment because some of my expensive tech software only runs in the XP environment. Vista is a powerful operating system if you have the equipment designed for it. It's a shame they removed so much of the backward compatability though. My e-mail address is geokohler@gmail.com if you need more help send me your number and I will call you for free to discuss your options in more detail. Please take the time to rate this fixya and I will provide you with free support whenever you need it directly. I do this for a hobby, I just like helping people.

Laptop driver problem

contact the manufacturer of the laptop for support. They may or may not have drivers for it- but if they do they should be able to point you in the right direction. Unfortunately most manufacturers that sell vista laptops are not providing any drivers for xp, and have no plans to. Good luck!

Are you sure that you installed the windows xp drivers and not the vista drivers? There may be no xp drivers for your laptop, and if thats the case, you'll have to switch back to vista. Make sure you know 100% that its the xp drivers.
