Yes, there is power. I can get to the BIOS.

BIOS is detecting the harddrive. Sequence on the boot menue shows hard drive 1st, DVDRRW 2nd and cd-rom 3rd.

It had to be stored for a few months and it worked just fine before carefully packed in origihal box. I got it out afew days ago and here we are.

I have the hp recovery cd's but can't get the cd drive to read the cd. The hp recovery keeps taking over and tries to format the hard drive but fails.

The bios sounds right. Did this just happen or did you just get the computer or?? Was it working fine yesterday? Sounds to me like you are going to have to format it.

  • compgeek09 May 11, 2010

Keep me updated, and if there is data on the drive that you want before you format it, then there are ways to get it without booting into windows.

I would look in the bios to see if it is detecting the hardrive? and what the boot sequence is? Is it booting off of the hardrive first or the CD rom? If it is detecting the hardrive, then it is probably not bad. I would try to use your recovery cd. You will lose any data on the hardrive though if you format it.

Is there power? If there is power it sounds like the hard drive is bad. Can you get to the bios when it turns on? Could also be the boot sequence.

Do you have a restore image or the recovery discs? If not, you might be able to contact HP and pay a small fee for them to mail you a set.

If you have a boot CD try that (i.e. a boot live CD of Knoppix or Ubuntu Linux) to see if the computer is working

Hp pavilion dv9000 takes a long time to get past the bios screen. It won't boot of dvd either??

Check BIOS boot options and assign local hard drive as first for faster boot. This is also where you set CD\DVD as first to boot from disc. Look for F Key press on start up. It will be shown on screen. These can vary.

Many HP machines also have a boot menu option during boot. Again an F key and may vary.

Pro-book 4520 won't boot. I switched on this morning. The windows (7) logo appeared, then blue/black screen and cursor only. Would not boot up. Ran diagnostics which said all OK. Still won'

The windows files are corrupted or the hard drive has issues, load cd installation disc if available, if that fails have the hardware checked for possible replacement.

New HDD inserted into Pavilion ZD7000 - will not boot from XP CD

Try your old HDD in it and see if that works. If it does work then nothing is damaged except your DVD drive/Controller. Try putting the new HDD in another computer, installing windows then putting it back in the HP. If all else fails then flash the bios with an updated image and see if that rectifies the problem.

Wont boot up

Could it be the Boot Virus? I had the same issues. My co-worker was able to find the virus, which Norton could not. My PC is now running normal.

Problems with my laptop

I think it has to do with your video cardsettings.I suggest u should get knoppix live cd which is downloadable free from the net.You then try to boot your computer using knoppix cd by changing your boot options to booting from cd.You enter the boot options by pressing down one of the function keys depending on your computer make.If u are able to boot in to knoppix you can access your video card and then resety it.
