I have changed the Batteries and hooked it up to the adaptor. I have left it for a day and still no change. It was working the day before, but it did occasionally crash. What can I do?
The occasional crashes could indicate a bad electrical connection somewhere in the system. A dry joint or faulty connection with a flat ribbon cable. With modern printed circuit boards built the way they are dry joints are extremely awkward to track down owing to double sided boards and surface mount components.
The problem is best left to a tech and with the costs you're likely to be charged it's often better to buy yourself a new camera.
try this: Make sure batteries are fully charged, Open the cover of memory compartment, the red LED is flashing, it means that there is a reading error. I reset the camera (under the output connection cover), took off the memory chip, and replaced with a spare one, then it powered on and prompt to date/time set up. Let me know if this works for you. Again the regulator circuits are suspect. There are probably several differnt voltages used internally, each requiring a separate regulator.
The red light is only going to run from one of them, so it would come on if the regulator it gets it's power from is fine. That doesn't mean the others are OK!
The only thing you could do is get it on the test bench and subject it to some complicated technical stuff. Preferably with the aid of a service manual.
If you aren't techincally competent, I wouldn't advise even trying. There are bits inside which carry quite large voltages, even when turned off and the battereis removed. There probably isn't enough juice total to kill you outright, but it won't be at all pleasant if it decides to bite you. (Electricity is a concious thinking being, and actively preys upon the unwary. YOu have been warned!)
