Enter the I2C Service Menu, be sure the power is OFF. -On the front control panel, press and hold the INPUT button. Then press the POWER button for two seconds. You may keep the INPUT button depressed until you see the OSD with the Service Menu displayed.
- Before continuing further, Confirm that R, G and B drive are set at 40.  - Be sure to press SELECT after each change to SAVE the new Data.

- Use the Remote Control Joystick to scroll down to next page until 'LCD Adjust' is highlighted.
- Move the joy stick to the right to cursor right once. The next page will appear with the word 'Ghost' highlighted.
- Cursor right again, and a white screen will appear with a Black Square in the center. You will see LCD Adjust, followed by 'SHP' and some number/ value.

- If the unit is out of adjustment, you should see a gray ghost on either side of the black square. - Move the joystick to the right or to the left til the ghost disappears. The number values will change up or down.
- If the ghost adjustment is off with a lower value, there will be a ghost to the left of the square.  - If the ghost adjustment is off with a higher value, there will be a ghost to the right of the square.  - Once you get the square to look good without ghosts, press "SELECT" to save any data values that have been changed.
Press the 'Exit' button thrice to return to normal picture.
It should work now ...

Hello,

did you really troubleshoot your TV.? .If yes then you should test the component of the horizontal and vertical projection. that maybe loss connection in it. try to re soldered all the parts since it was functioning that's only minimal errors in it.

The symptoms you describe tells me it is a resistor in the blue convergence output the fact the blue still moves in one way tells me that the ic is still working these resitors are ussally next to convergence ic the convergence ics are two big black component on heat sinks. if you can find the open resistor ussally value around 2.3 ohms 1/2 watt.

  • jason Oct 22, 2008

if you reset the tv , you will have to realign ,and that won't help when theres a problem exsisting

  • jason Oct 22, 2008

I go to a couple of stores called RS electronics and Bursma electronics but I'm sure your names will be different , but just look in the phone book or online for a parts store near you

  • jason Oct 22, 2008

this is I belive your stk click here

  • jason Oct 22, 2008

nad yes there are two stk's in the conversion and thats why you will have to find the bad resistor , but when you do the conversion replace them both because half a tune up won't last!

On the blue crt below the glass tube you will fine two metal tabs. By sliding the metal tabs (they move in a circular pattern) you can re-center the crt with a little experimentation. Then follow the convergence procedure to complete the repair. When you resiliconed the anode lead you may have moved the metal tabs from their previous position.

I can't align red or green bulbs with the digital array, how can I get them to move left/right they only move up/down.

There are two common problems with these sets.

Problem #1) Convergence

Symptoms:
  • Screen Looks 3D
  • Colors wont align
  • Video may look distorted
Problem #2 CRT Fluid has clouded over. Symtoms
  • Dull looking video
  • White looking video
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking video

Can't get the blue and red box to align

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Shadows on left side of screen, right side has no shadows

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.
