I am trying to reset my toshibe m45 s165 to its factory settings, but when i try the whole press "0" and power at the same time, the laptop keeps turning off since im holding the power button,...

Do not hold the power button down while pressing the "0" key - it'll shut the computer off again. You just need to push it once to turn the power on and then hold the "0" key immediately after you push the power button on - just like turning on the laptop, but this time you're holding the "0" key down.

Shuts down unexpected,

Sounds like an overheating issue, I would suggest using a cooling pad.

325aed8.jpg It's a simple device, you just rest your laptop on it and the fans do the work.

Sometime they overheat when working in a confined space, make sure you have ample room aroung the laptop for ventialtion.

Hope this helps

BSOD when trying to install Win XP, or boot Win XP from hard drive BSOD screen is as follows: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor or visit http://www.hardware-update.com for an updated BIOS. If you are unable to obtain an updated BIOS or the latest BIOS supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable the ACPI and allow you to continue your installation. Technical information: *** STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x00000011, 0x00000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) Every BSOD I received was this exact code. I ran a RAM test with memtest86+, it showed 0 errors. I tried reinstalling BIOS v 1.1 (supplied by Toshiba) and the first time it did let me boot into the XP Home installed on the system, after which it worked fine. While in xp, I checked device manager to see if the system was ACPI, and it was. I've also tried BIOS v 1.2, the last one supplied by Toshiba, to no avail. I did try pressing F7 during one of the installation attempts, and it hung at "setup is starting windows", I tried pressing F5 during an attempt, and there was only one option besides "other", the typical i486, which I selected, after which it hung at "setup is starting windows". I've flashed BIOS with v 1.2 a few times now, with same BSOD during both xp install attempts and boot attempts. What baffles me is the errors did not show up until I tried to install xp for the first time. Before that the computer booted every time. I've never heard of xp effecting BIOS during install. I have been to the microsoft support page for this BSOD. There are two articles on this specific code that I found, one for a "wake from hibernation" error, and the other for an xp installation error, seems as though the latter applies here. URL below. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314830 I'm fixing this for a friend. I fix computers all the time. This one is getting up there with DELL's laptops. The screen is broken, so I'm using an external monitor. He doesn't want the monitor fixed, so I'm only doing a fresh install + Backup for him. Thank god I already backed up the data. Thank you in advance for your time. (I just got the error again. Gonna try windows 7.)
