I have a Kenmore 70 Series heavy duty plus # 82374810. The problem is the switch that turns on the machine. When I pull out the switch to operate the machine it fills OK but part way through the wash cycle it stops. I have to put a piece of wood under the switch to keep it running. Can you help me fix this, or find the part?

The symptoms you describe are typical of a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually located on the right hand side under the cabinet. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the right side of the wash tub opening. Make sure the lid strike is still on the lid and intact, first. Then, check the mounting screws that hold the lid switch in place (two screws along the tub rim on the right hand side). Often all that is required is to tighten up the mounting screws and this will realign the lid switch where it can be properly activated by the lid strike. If the lid switch is broken, you can find a replacement at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number (located around the tub opening under the lid) and look under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. If you do not wish to order online, take the part numbers provided by Sears and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. These are common parts that most will carry in their store inventory. The following link explains how to replace the switch:

This is a very inexpensive repair that you can easily accomplish on your own. I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

PS This is a common problem experienced by this line of washing machines. To prevent future failures, do not slam the washer lid or place anything heavy on the lid. Repeatedly slamming the lid to get it to work, or manipulating the timer can can more potential problems.

Remove the hoses which provide the washer with water. Check to make sure they are not clogged. At the back of the washer where the hoses connect there are screens. Check them to make sure they are clear also.

My kenmore 80 series washer will not stop filling up with water at the start of the cycle.

check the clear plastic line going to the pressure switch inside the console, blow into it to see if there is a hole in it or it could have slipped off the pressure switch, or you have a bad pressure switch, blow gently into the switch you should hear a click but it still could be bad,the pressure switch is what shuts the water down when it's filling and if there's a hole in the line or any air leaking out of the clear hose the water will not stop

The wash machine will fill but wont stop filling

If it stops filling when you turn it off, the water level switch is malfunctioning. If the water runs in regardless, the water inlet valve needs replaced.

Your fill valve needs replacing. Not too expensive to change. This is all based on the fact that you have checked both feeds to the washer hook up and that the shut off lever is fully open.

Kenmore series 70 washer will only fill with water.

I recently had this problem. It was found that the main drive belt broke and the washer would fill but not spin, agitate or drain. I replaced the belt and everything worked again. A defective or disconnected cover switch would also cause the same problem.

Series 70 fills wit water stops then makes a slight buzzing sound

The electric motor my have failed or a part called a capacitor could be the problem? The capacitor is part of the starting circuit of the electric motor, if this fails the motor will not start therefore the washing machine won't spin or agitate.
