Re: Grinding Sound

Only solution - Don't buy a FELLOWES shredder.
It is ludicrous that they cannot (will not) supply a spare gear wheel when there are thousands of instances of them failing. Or even think outside the box - fit metal ones?

Re: Grinding Sound

You can buy a gear kit for this shredder if there in stock for about $33. Gear kit #30421 1 630 893-1600

Re: Grinding Sound

There is a metal helical drive from the motor that turns a plastic gear wheel, all to commonly it seem that if the shredder is over loaded the plastic has the teeth stripped off it by the metal gear. least that is what has happened to mine. I am still trying to find a replacement gear, about to give up and buy a new one.

Rexel 100X. Why does it work for 2 seconds in reverse only, then jams?

From your description, experience tells me there is something jamming the mechanism. If plastic or clay coated material has been shredded, there will be residue between the grinding wheels that will require use of a utility knife and a pick to remove bit by bit. You will have to apply power periodically to rotate the mechanism and give access to new areas to be cleaned.

Indicates jam. Why won't it move forward or reverse?

Some material that can't be shredded is lodged in the mechanism. The drive motor may have sensed thermal overload and stopped working either permanently or until the shredder is unclogged. Obviously, you will have to get access to the grinding mechanism and (with power disconnected) remove the jamming material bit by bit.

Odd metal to metal sound

You can't really clean the blades...however , a x-cut shredder should be lubricated regularly....try putting some shredder oil on a sheet of paper and shredding this a number of times to get the oil down into the cutting blades, see if that helps.

Shredder make loud grinding sound when shredding 1 sheet of paper.

sounds to me like you have a gear going or already gone out. You might want to take it apart and check out the gears. It's not to hard to take them apart or put them back together. Just keep track of how everything is positioned.

Was working nicely, just lubricated, was working on good size job, emptied basket, return for more shredding, motor comes on and sounds like turning but will not feed

do the cutting heads turn? if they are not turning when you hear motor running you have a bad gear, belt or drive pin. most of the gears are palstic. when they brak no load sound, no grinding noise. you may have to take it off the stand , flip it over, messy. then unbolt the bottom cover and inspect the drive. make sure it is unplugged

Shredder makes a horrible sound when shredding.

Just put a lightweight shredder oil on some paper and shred the this a number of times this will get the oil down into the cutting shafts.

Shredder drive gear is probably shredded - hard part to find or replace usually. Could mean a new shredder;-(

Power won't come on

Try to open the shredder with a screw driver, but be very careful not to break or move anything important. Remove any paper that may be in there. If its the gears inside that are not working, you can use some oil as a lubricant to fix it up.
