Rusty water after installing a water filter?

I recently installed a Whirlpool, model WHKF-DWHBB, water filter unit in my home and I still have rusty water. I live in a home with a well and have a Kenmore, Ultrasoft 180, water conditioner. I have these units plumed from the pressure tank into the conditioner and then into the filter. Should I reverse the position of the filter and the conditioner?

What type of piping do you have past the filter? Galvanized steel is prone to rusting inside and would'nt be filtered.

Leave it like it is. Unless you had sand coming through your water. The softener will regenerate and rinse alot of what your filter would plug with down the drain,

Please rate this response and Good Luck, Phil

Have you heard of the Merus ring ? It has been installed on a 26,000 sq ft office building in fresno which had a very severe rusty water problem.and in a very short period of time solved the owners problem at a reasonable cost see www.merusca,com for more info. Rick W

Touch sinking fix

It sounds like you may have a built in filter in the faucet. The red may indicate that it is time to change the filter, but more than likely it is an indicator for low batteries which are located in the cabinet below the sink. Either change the filter, or change the batteries.

Both of the Pegasus baskets in my sink have come apart. I put them back together and they come apart again. I would like to purchase new baskets, but can only find the entire drain assembly, which I do...

I know what you mean I had similar problems with my sink strainers, unfortunately is you want to get a good working basket you have to buy the whole drain assembly. You can get some cheap ones at a home store but they will only break again and probably won't match up. What I recommend is swapping out your drains with a drain brand that won't break again like Kohler, Moen, or Elkay. All you need to install a new drain is the new drains, a drain nut removal tool and some plumbers putty. Take the old drain out clean around the whole and install the new one with a ring of plumbers putty around the hole.

I need a new franke sink basket strainer for my franke sink model PRX11021 - stainless steel. What is the model number that will fit this sink and can I order it online or go to a local store?

You should purchase a complete basket strainer assembly. Home Depot or Lowes have some very nice ones. They are a standard size.
Tell them it's for your kitchen sink.

Strainer and a Filter differences

Actually there isn’t any since a strainer is, in reality, a coarse filter. The question is then one of semantics. Generally it is assumed that if the particle to be removed is not visible to the naked eye, the unit is filtering, and if the particle is visible, the unit is straining. The average human eye can detect a specific particle between 50 and 70 micros. Most people cannot see anything smaller than 325 mesh, or 44 microns. Since 200 mesh is equivalent to 74 microns, a general rule would be that if the screening device is coarser than 200 mesh, it is a strainer and if it is finer than 200 mesh it is a filter. One of the best uses for a strainer is in conjunction with a filter. By installing a strainer directly ahead of a filter, the large heavy pieces which would quickly clog the filter are removed. The filter is then free to do its major job of fine particle removal and does not have to be cleaned so often.
