This may be due to CD/DVD region code!

I had the same problem. I took the bottom off and was looking at the parts inside it. What I found with mine was that the gears were not turning smoothly. I realized it was something between the gear on the motor (white) and the middle gear. All I had to do was to push the white gear that is on the motor back down until it snapped back into place. Problem solved. I hope this helps others with the same problem.

Sounds to me like your laser reader isn't set for a dvd reader... if it will read cd's then its working, unless your putting the wrong type of formatted dvd in the player...

Well if like me you have tried taking it to a repair shop, you know that no one will touch it. These are unreliable cheap units, the screens are great just the DVD players keep going wrong. Give up and plug a portable media player into the input, all the films on a hard drive - no jumping - stopping etc etc

If this is the PVS1950D, then visit the companies website at Select "Car Entertainment" then "Mobile DVD Systems" and finally select "PVS1950D". You can either email or call them for assistance. The repair fee is about $50 I believe, plus shipping. A brand new unit with 7" screens will run you about $100.

I had the same problems as well. I ended up taking it to a local shop here in the SF Bay Area and got it fixed instantly. It didn't cost much but got it done. I wouldn't tamper with it though esp. with alcohol as it may damage the laser and set the laser out of alignment to cause more costly repairs.

All of the 8" and 10" Delphi DVD entertainment systems are absolute JUNK. I have been installing mobile video for 15 years now and have never come across a DVD player with so many problems. Not only do the systems suck but so does Delphi service. I now have 6 systems under warranty repair at their facility. This is the second batch that I have sent them. The first batch of 10 I sent them took over 8 weeks for repair. I have also personally repaired at least 10 other units by swapping parts between broken units. Many of the DVD systems require a new ribbon cable that goes to the screen. Yet Delphi will not sell these. If anyone has info on where to purchase these ribbon cables. Please e-mail me at

It sounds as if an urgent discectomy is in order and take it along to your friendly car audio/video doctor for a second opinion. Cd and CVD players have a shockin record for lasting much ;pnger than the warranty. BMW

When trying to video keep getting message no disc'' even though there is disc in camera

Check the laser lens for any dirt or obstruction. If there is, clean it carefully with a "Q" tip and alcohol. Insert a disk and listen for the disk turning inside the drive. If you don't hear anything then something is wrong with the read laser. It's either damaged or burned out. The laser must focus, read, and then spin the disk to not show "no disc".

"No disc" error

This means that the lens of your dvd player is having a hard time reading the discs. It could be dirty. You need to run a disc cleaner to run into your player for like 30 seconds. It it does not solve the problem. You might need to clean the lens manually. Open the casing and unscrew the plastice plate covering the lens. Then get a q tip damped in an alcohol. Gently wipe on the lens' surface and let it dry. Return everything back and play those discs again.

Sony CDX-CA400 FM/AM Compact Disc Player

The optic inside the CD player may be dirty or damp, this is the part that reads the data from the cd, you can try cd cleaning discs or you may have get an engineer to open it and clean it with an alcohol swab. The optic could also be faulty which will be cheaper to buy a new cd player.

'bad disc' error message comes up every time I

Your optical pickup drive lens is dirty or needs to be replaced.  Run a DVD disc cleaning kit through it and see if that helps.  If not, then you have to open this thing up and clean the lens with a bit of rubbing alcohol and then try.  If that don't work you can either kick it to the curb or replace the optical lens.

No matter what dvd disc i insert all i get is no valid disc cd discs play ok

Since CDs play, this is usually a sign that the optics are failing. Try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails to resolve the problem, the optics will need to be replaced. If you can post the make and model, I can get you the approximate cost for this as well.

My CFD-Z501 won't play a disc. I get the message "no disc"

Try to use CD/DVD clening disk ($6 in Walmart). Or simply use cotton swab (Q-TIP) and 40 % ethyl alcohol (vodka) or 50-70% isopropyl alcohol (NO ACETONE), depending on your budget.
Also check if discs are inserted correctly and not damaged/durty etc. Also check your discs. Some CD-players dont accept burned CDs (copyed). I believe Sony is not the case, just a suggestion.
If cleaning wont help lens might be damaged.
Good Luck
