I had the same problem. I took the bottom off and was looking at the parts inside it. What I found with mine was that the gears were not turning smoothly. I realized it was something between the gear on the motor (white) and the middle gear. All I had to do was to push the white gear that is on the motor back down until it snapped back into place. Problem solved. I hope this helps others with the same problem.

Sounds to me like your laser reader isn't set for a dvd reader... if it will read cd's then its working, unless your putting the wrong type of formatted dvd in the player...

Well if like me you have tried taking it to a repair shop, you know that no one will touch it. These are unreliable cheap units, the screens are great just the DVD players keep going wrong. Give up and plug a portable media player into the input, all the films on a hard drive - no jumping - stopping etc etc

If this is the PVS1950D, then visit the companies website at http://www.1800customersupport.com/venturer Select "Car Entertainment" then "Mobile DVD Systems" and finally select "PVS1950D". You can either email or call them for assistance. The repair fee is about $50 I believe, plus shipping. A brand new unit with 7" screens will run you about $100.

I had the same problems as well. I ended up taking it to a local shop here in the SF Bay Area and got it fixed instantly. It didn't cost much but got it done. I wouldn't tamper with it though esp. with alcohol as it may damage the laser and set the laser out of alignment to cause more costly repairs.

All of the 8" and 10" Delphi DVD entertainment systems are absolute JUNK. I have been installing mobile video for 15 years now and have never come across a DVD player with so many problems. Not only do the systems suck but so does Delphi service. I now have 6 systems under warranty repair at their facility. This is the second batch that I have sent them. The first batch of 10 I sent them took over 8 weeks for repair. I have also personally repaired at least 10 other units by swapping parts between broken units. Many of the DVD systems require a new ribbon cable that goes to the screen. Yet Delphi will not sell these. If anyone has info on where to purchase these ribbon cables. Please e-mail me at Tintnsound@Comcast.net

It sounds as if an urgent discectomy is in order and take it along to your friendly car audio/video doctor for a second opinion. Cd and CVD players have a shockin record for lasting much ;pnger than the warranty. BMW

Old dvds wont play in old or new player bought 3 brand ones still wont work what brand player shuld i buy tell me whats wrong

If you have purchased multiple dvd players and none of them will play your DVDs (including your old player which previously played the old DVDs), then your issue is with the DVDs. You have to replace them because they have been damaged or scratched and can't be read by the laser anymore. DVDs are not indestructible and can eventually be damaged beyond repair. You'll have to replace the DVDs, which makes more economic sense than buying multiple DVD players to try and play them. If these are home movies or personal recordings you should contact a local computer store about data recovery.

"No disc" error

This means that the lens of your dvd player is having a hard time reading the discs. It could be dirty. You need to run a disc cleaner to run into your player for like 30 seconds. It it does not solve the problem. You might need to clean the lens manually. Open the casing and unscrew the plastice plate covering the lens. Then get a q tip damped in an alcohol. Gently wipe on the lens' surface and let it dry. Return everything back and play those discs again.

It dosnt read a disc or dvd

Hello,
The most common problem that causes a dvd player to not read discs is that the optical reading lens is dirty or the discs themselves are scratched or dirty. You can clean the optical lens in two ways:
1. You can purchase an inexpensive cleaning disc from wal-mart and most other stores that sell electronic products. You would simply follow the instructions on the cleaning disc and put the disc in the player and it will run through it's cleaning cycle as if the disc was a normal disc.

2. You can clean the optical lens manually. You can do this by unplugging and removing all power sources from the machine. You will need a couple of cu-tips and a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Open the player like you are going to insert a disc. You will see the optical lens which looks like the following picture

10c1c74.jpg

Take and pour a small amount of the rubbing alcohol into it's cap and lightly dip a cu-tip into the solution. Shake out any excess liquid from the cu-tip and then going in a circular motion, lightly clean the optical lens. Repeat this 3-4 times and then let the alcohol completely air dry. Be very careful to not put any excess pressure on the lens or allow any of the liquid to drip onto any other parts of the player's components. Let dry for 2-3 minutes before reconnecting any power source. Your optical reading lens should now be cleaned.

If however, you insert the disc and it is not spinning up, then the problem could be that the small spindle motor has malfunctioned or dirt or debris is keeping it from functioning properly (using a can of compressed air will usually clean the inside and usually remove the dirt or debris). If the spindle motor has gone out, then it would require replacement. The part itself is around $25-40 dollars, but it would require someone with the technical experience to replace it and the labor would probably be around $50-65 dollars for labor depending on the prices in your area.

The following is a labeled picture and you will be able to see the top of the spindle which the motor is located directly below that.

4a819ac.jpg

You can read in my tips and tricks for dvd players "the most common mechanical problems" for a more detailed list of mechanical failures that happen with dvds.

Try cleaning the dvds/cds and the optical reader first and see if that fixes your problem. Feel free to ask if you need any further assistance.

If you do not mind, could you please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You

The dvds are not detected - No Disc or Disc Error

Hi. These steps should help.
  1. Check the disc you're using for scratches and dirt. If the disc is damaged it won’t play properly, regardless of the DVD player’s ability to function. You can use a DVD repair device like the "Disc Doctor" to repair the DVD or purchase a new DVD.
  2. Make sure the discs you're using fit the correct format specified by your DVD player. For example, if your DVD player doesn’t support home-burned DVD-R's, then you can’t use a DVD that you made at home. You may need to upgrade to a newer model, most of which accept the latest DVD formats.
  3. Clean the laser lens with a DVD laser lens cleaning disc. DVD laser lens cleaning discs can be purchased at most electronics retailers or online. Insert the laser lens cleaning disc and follow the instructions.
  4. Insert a correctly-formatted, undamaged disc into your player. Listen to see if it begins to read the disc. If it continues to make no sound and gives you the same message, then the problem is probably that your disc is not spinning in the device.
  5. Turn the device off and unplug it. Take off the outer casing by removing the three or four screws and lifting the top piece off. This will allow you to see if anything is simply stuck or jammed. If this is the case, a simple nudge back to the correct position will fix the problem.
  6. Clean the lens while the DVD player is open. A dirty lens is most likely the cause of your no-disc error. The lens should be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab.
  7. Take your DVD player to have it professionally fixed only when none of these other solutions solves the problem. A professional repair technician will be able to tell you if fixing your DVD player is worth the money.

Player won't read the DVDs

some players won't play burnt discs. If you are using a factory made disc and you still get this, then you can try and clean laser lens with rubbing alcohol and cotton swab.
If the cleaning doesn't work, then the laser lens circuit will need to be replaced.

CH dvd300 plays music cds wont read dvds states continuously insert disc

The non-technical answer would be that the lens needs to be cleaned. This is the first step for this type of problem. There are many things that can get the disk drive lens dirty like smoke, incense, dust, moisture. Open the unit and open the DVD cover. You will see the lens that reads a DVD. Get a cotton swab (the ones for cleaning out ears) and some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and moisten the cotton swab with the alcohol (moisten not soak) and gently (I mean, do not push hard or scrub hard) rub it on the lens. Now with a dry cotton swab, do the same. Let it dry for a minute (longer if the swab had more alcohol and it might have dripped down) and close the unit. Now try to play DVDs and let us know if it worked. If this does not do the trick then it could be a firmware issue that can only be fixed if the company put a download on their support page.
