Vertical scan section circuit fault. Check and replace damaged component/s at its vertical scan output section circuit. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. In the UK I'm not familiar with this American set, but what I can tell you is there is a number of dry solder joints on or around the field output IC causing what is known as FIELD COLLAPSE.

To find bad joints I use a long, thin and round piece of wood (remember wood does not conduct) I just tap around the board until I hit the right part and you know when you have by the results on the screen then you can switch off and resolder.

If you are going to attempt the job yourself - BE CAREFUL - high voltages are generated inside TV sets and pay attention to the panel fitted to the tube base this will give you one hell of a kick if you touch it!

BUT.....if you are not confident of doing this yourself and have any doubts then don't do it yourself and get a TV engineer in sort it out.

sounds like a loos transistor, AKA frozen solder joint.
check the transistors on all the heat sinks.

problem is caused by the loss of horizontal deflection signal. It is quite surprising that the entire unit is still working, since usually, a loss of H-Out will disable the entire set. Problem can be as simple as loose solder connection to a more complicated defective horizontal circuit. I would suggest havint it checked by a professional TV tech.

Best suggestion is IHVT,also known as flyback transformer.Thomson products well-known for xformer troubles. (GE,RCA & Proscan)

yes it can still be fixed! the pop sound you've heard maybe came from a blown capacitor in the vertical deflection circuits. this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!

hi When you let the line to long it will burn in!! you need to look into the VERTICAL output section. Most notably check the solder joints on the vert output IC and ESR the caps. If you don't know what any of that means, then take it to a professional. good luck
