MS Office Word

Every time I try to open a mail document, I get a message saying that a dialog box is open, to close it and proceed. When I do this a box comes up and wants me to put on a serial number. This feature came on my computer and I do not have this number. How can I recover my MS Word? I have also lost my powerpoint feature.

Is it possible to make word repair document?

When you restart a Microsoft Office program after a power failure or similar problem, the program automatically opens any recovered files.
If for some reason the recovery file didn't open, you can open it yourself.

1. On the Standard toolbar, click Open .
2. On the Show pop-up menu, click All Documents.
3. Locate the folder that contains your recovery files.
Each recovery file is named "AutoRecover save of file name."
4. Open the recovery file.
5. Click Save .
6. In the Save As box, enter the name of the existing document.
7. When you see a message asking whether you want to replace the existing document, click Yes.

Any recovery files that haven't been saved are deleted when you quit WorTips

• If you can't open the recovery file, you can try to recover the text from the damaged file.
• To find out or change where your recovery files are stored, click Preferences on the Word menu, and then click File Locations.

Otherwise apply Word Repair Toolbox

Attachments freeze computer

If you press [ALT]+[TAB] and bring the email message with the attachment to the front and send it, that should release your mail. Until you actually send your email (or save it to send later), Word will not allow you to close it.

Or, just to make life easier, save your document, and attach IT to your email rather than trying to send the document from within Word.

It sounds like you're using Outlook, which has a nasty habit of keeping hold of objects (like your Word Document) until it is finished with them, sometimes requiring that it be completely closed.

I cant open attatchments to email. A box that says it cant perform the action because dialog box is open pops up. I don't know what a dialog box is.

Please download the attachment from the E-mail and then open the downloaded file, if the issue persists. Please uninstall and re-install the Microsoft Office. If you are worried about purchasing Microsoft Office, you can download and install the Open Source freely available OpenOffice which can be used to read and write Microsoft Documents like Word, Excel...etc from the below link :

Troubleshooting MS Word 2003 XP

Hold down your ALT key, and touch the TAB key.
You'll see a list of "open" windows.
Touch the TAB key again, and the "outline" rectangle around one item in the list will move to the next item.
Release the ALT key to "focus" on the window.
If it is a "dialog" window (with 'yes' or 'no' or 'cancel' buttons),
close the window.

Repeat the hold-down-the-ALT-and-touch-TAB until you have closed the "dialog" window that is "blocking" Word.

Out of Office Responder

Hi Lalita, are you using outlook express in XP? If so, there is no one click solution. Firstly you have to create a new notepad document, open this in START>Programs>Accessories>Notepad. With this open, type the message you would like to be forwarded when you are out of the office. When you are happy with it, save it in your my documents folder as 'outofoffice'. You should now have the file 'outofoffice.txt' in your mydocuments folder. Next go into outlook express, goto Tools>message rules>Mail...>. A four part dialog box should appear. Under "1. Select Conditions for your rule" scroll to the bottom of the list and add a check mark to "For all messages". Under "2. Select Actions for your rule", check off "Reply with message". Under "3. Rule description" the follow items will now be listed: Apply this rule after the message arrives For all messages Reply with message You will see that 'meesage' is underlined, click on it, a dialog will open, make sure is 'my documents' folder, in 'files of type' drop down choose *.txt. (nearly there promise!) Your file 'outofoffice.txt' should appear, click it then click open. in rule description call it something like 'when out of office' and click ok. The rule dialog should now be there, the box will be ticked, that means you auto responder is turned ON. To turn off uncheck this box, and check it when you leave the office. If you close it, to find the rule again, just navigate to tools>message rules>mail..> and will show you the dialog again to turn it on and off. I hope that was reasonably clear, if not or you don't have outlook express leave a comment and I will try and help you further, otherwise Lalita, I hope this has helped! Si :)
