My zune stopped working and now will not turn on

The zune started to turn off on its own, showed the main zune display and a power-up strip then go to the main screen. I picked music and turned the volume back up and it would be fine for some time. this started happening more often, until today. it just shut itself off and will not power up. its just dead. even hooking it to the computer won't power it up, it is not recognized as being attached. i have deleated all but the music that i have loaded. please help!!!

  • seabass183 Dec 31, 2008

My zune is stuck on the start up screen with the loading bar all the way to the right like a lot of other people. As of now the only way to solve the problem is to take apart the unit and remove the battery, and reset the time to a older date. Then it should work fine as long as you dont plug it in to your pc,which in return would set the clock back to the current time.Or you can just wait for good old microsoft to post a fix, like me in order to prevent breaking the unit from trying to remove the battery.

I figured out the solution by just getting upset.
Hold the Back arrow (<-) and Up on the touch pad and it will restart the Zune. This works for the 8gig and 80gig Zune.

Thebluestar is right. My 30 Gb Zune got hanged when I was playing random songs. I just pressed back arrow {leftmost side (<-)} + Up arrow and it got restarted.

For the guys who doesnt understand a bit of what I mean can wait for zune's battery to die and re-power it again by connecting it to the power source (laptop/PC etc).

Thanks! :-)

WOW! This works! I was so upset. My 4 year old 30GB Zune suddenly stopped working. As they don't make them anymore, I had to go and spend $300 on an iPod. None of my playlists would have transferred, I would have needed to start using iTunes, which I dislike. I so SO happy this easy fix worked. Back to Best Buy with the iPod and a refund of my $300. Thank you SO much!

So yesterday my zune was working fine nothing unusual at all. when i wake up this morning and try to turn it on nothing happens no matter what i pressed nothing would turn the screen on. so i plugged it into my xbox thinking maybe the battery was dead. but then when i plug it in the screen comes on, the battery is almost full. so i unplugged it and the second i unplug it the screen shuts off and i cant do anything again. all day it has progressively gotten worse now when i plug my zune into anything all it does is go to the reboot screen and shuts down goes back to the reboot screen and repeats that cycle. once and a while the restart will actually work and the zune will come on but then if i try to unplug it, it turns right back off. Ive tried resetting it and all that but its not working and ive tried formatting it but i cant considering none of the buttons will respond.

To the new users with the problem. It's a leap year issue that will go away tomorrow according to MS.

For those that want to DIY it, removing the battery cable and plugging it back in manually will reset things and make it work again.

I did a quick and dirty guide on our site

http://www.neoseeker.com/news/9533-zune-30gb-diy-fix-unbrick/

From that article:

The 30GB downtime is no fun at all, drive spinning, battery draining, it's a drag honestly.
For those handy with a small screwdriver (Philips or standard) you can pop open in and fix this quite fast.

With a small screwdriver lightly apply pressure on each end of the black clip, pop off the cover to the Zune, below this there should now be 2 philips head screws, if the tool is small enough then turn these screws and remove them, the case should now be possible to open, use a finger nail to slightly pry the case up, there isn't much resistance on it.

From here you'll see the back of the zune now, the black rectangle is the battery, follow the lead on this over the back of the lcd to the plug, to make it easier on yourself lift up the battery and then slightly pull on the ribbon cable to get it out. After you do this let it rest for a moment and then plug the battery back in, this is where the fine hands come in since the cable has resistance and can break if the user is forceful with it. Slide the cable back in until it's secure (there should be a little bit of white showing still) the zune should now be powered on into the menu system and functional. Attach the back onto the Zune again and place the screws back in.

The Zune should now be operational again without the 99.9% hang.

Dude i have the same problem my zune is stuck at the start screen with the loading strip. and, pay attention here, THE RESET PROCESS WILL NOT WORK!. i suggest that you should let the battery die, then plug it in again.

I double click on my zune software but it wont start

Uninstall your software. Delete those files. Plug your Zune in and let your computer locate the Zune and find/install the drivers and software for it! It should do it by itself.

My Zune 80gb all of a sudden just stopped working after I fully charged it one night. I woke up to the media player turning on but only showing the dark blue back light. It was completely unresponsive...

the display may be broke,

i very much would like to forward you to the manufacturer's hompage at:

https://service.zune.net/en-us/signin

if Microsoft can't help you and
warranty does not cover the device anymore,

i fear u may end up
with an mp3-player that has biiiig storage space or an oversized thumb-drive.

I hope you get lucky...

My zune just stopped working

run the battery completey dead or you could possibly reset the device to factory default...

Try this....
Reset Zune: Press and hold the back button while pressing up on the control pad.
Connect Zune to a power source: If the Zune device is in sleep mode, this action will wake the Zune device and turn it on. If the battery does not have a charge, you may have to wait several minutes for the Zune device to turn on.

Also, make sure that the hold button on top of your zune is turned to the off position.

Hope this helps!

Zune won't turn on or charge

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
