Check this first:
Click on START > Printers and Faxes.
Right click on your printer and select "Use printer Online" and try to print.

If the error still occurs, check the connector cable b/n PC and printer. If possible, try to replace cable. Check power supply and cables and make sure that the printer is actually ON. If all fails, try a different USB port and reinstall the printer driver after uninstalling it first...

Let me know how it goes.

Have you tried reinstalling the printer driver? Power down the PC first, then reboot. Now switch on the printer and go to start>printers and faxes and see if you have "Use printer Online" or "Use printer offline"
If you see the former, click on it once and try to print. If you see the latter, then there is a problem either with the driver or the connecting cable.

Your printer is not communicating with the Operating System.

First uninstall the printer. ( Make sure you have the printer driver disk )

Make sure the printer is OFF and disconnect the power lead to your desktop or laptop.

Leave the computer OFF for 2 to 3 minutes. I actually mean turn it off
and disconnect your power cord to the computer. That will clear
    everything.

Plug in and on your computer and let it boot up. When its fully booted,
click START / SETTINGS / PRINTERS and FAXes and click ADD A PRINTER.

Follow the instructions and have the appropriate driver disk or files on your computer to complete the installation.

Remember, most installations require the printer NOT be powered up or
connected while you load the drivers. That is normally the last step
and the driver loading will prompt you to turn on the power and make
    the connections.

    Hope this helps
    Kevin

Then you probably will have to reboot and voila, you're done.

    1. Is the USB plug securely plugged into your PC (and the nack of the printer). 99% this is the answer.

    2. Unplug your Printer (and I mean actually unplug it from the wall) and then plug it back in.

    3. Your printer may be broken (1% of the time)

Disconnect printer from computer
cancel documents in queue
if using a straight USB connection, delete all instances of printer. else remove duplicate printer icons.
reboot & reconnect printer (swap cables if not detected)

Disable your antivirus program and see what happen. Usually the antivirus is blocking the printer.

Printer is offline. how do I get it online?

Once you have added either a USB or networked printer to your PC or Mac computer, you can begin sending documents to print. However, on occasion, a print command will create an error on the printer and take it offline, which will prevent all future jobs from printing. To resolve this issue, you will need to change your printer settings from offline to online.
PC Instructions - Open the Start menu and click on the "Printers and Faxes" icon. This will open a window with a list of the printers currently set up on your computer. - Double-click on the icon of the printer you want to change to online. A pop-up window detailing all current print jobs will open. - Go to Printer in the menu bar of the pop-up window and uncheck "Use Printer Offline." This action will change the printer from offline to online. Mac Instructions - Open System Preferences by clicking on the icon in the Dock. - Go to the Print & Fax control panel under the Hardware category. - Select the printer you want to take online from the list on the left side of the screen. Then click on the "Open Print Queue" button. - Click on the "Resume Printer" button at the top of the queue window to change the printer from offline to online.

Hp 4650dn printer showing offline. Connected through airlink router. Working fine one day, offline the next. Power cycled and checked all connections, still no luck.

Hello !

You have to self diagnose the printer by your self. Please try this solutions.

1. Usually it is getting offline when the main computer that connects directly to the printer is off and you are only sharing from this computer through a router or a switch hub. Sure it will mention that the printer is offline and cannot print anything. You need that workstation to be open to be able to connect to the printer.

2. If not, check the cable connection connecting from your computer to the switch hub or router. Maybe it is just loosen for some reasons. Remove the cable to the router and plug it again. Turn off your printer and your computer and turn it on again. Try to print test page.

3. If not, try to unplug the printer cable connecting from the computer to the printer and maybe just loose up. Turn off your computer and printer, after turn it on again. Try to print test page.

4. If still not working, it not something to do with the hardware problem. I believe is it software problem, maybe you upgrade software or install software that harms your printer. Uninstall some programs from the computer that corrupted the driver files. If you upgrade the main computer, I suggest to uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

5. If not, try to replace the port (whether usb port) and maybe this is the problem. Try to turn off the unit and turn it on again.

6. If not, replace the cable connection from to the switch hub, close all the PC unit and print and try to print again.

Here is the only diagnostics solution I can give to you. Good Luck and Thank you for using Fixya.

Printer is offline and will not print. Restarting does not help.

When you double click the Printer and Faxes icon in the Control Panel you will see the printer that your computer is currently using. See.... if the printer image is clear it is online and ready to use, if its blurred then its in offline mode and cannot be use.

To correct offline printer.. some possible reasons is on the usb cable.. check if there is no open wire along the cable...Inserting the USB connector on the other usb slot of the cpu sometimes work just wait first until it is read.

If the printer is still blurred and offline after checking the usb connection, the 2nd thing to do is check the properties of the printer if it is set to offline mode. how? Double click your printer icon. It will display the print jobs window. Click on the Printer tab and uncheck on the "Use printer Offline". Cancel all pending print jobs, close the printer window and try again to print.

Status on print job says offline dell m5200

a few questions:

-Do you know this printer IP?
-Can you ping this printer?
-How many printers do you have on your network?
-Did all the printers on your network offline or just this printer?
-Did you check the network cable that connected to your printer?

solution:
-you might try to restart printer spooling service on your print server
or
-If your server is still functional, you might try to reinstall/set up this printer on network

In the Printers and Faxes window, right-click the product icon and click Open . The Printers folder opens.

If the menu includes Use Printer Online , click that option.
If neither Pause Printing nor Use Printer Offline is selected, press Esc to leave the menu without making changes.
If the issue continues, proceed to the next step.
Step four: - Stop the print queue
Double-click Macintosh HD.
Double-click the Application/Utilities folder.

Click Start Jobs.

Click a print job and click the Delete icon. Repeat the steps for all the jobs in the print queue.
Click Start Jobs.
Double-click the appropriate product in the product list to open the print queue.
When the print queue is empty, click Start Jobs.
Try the print job again.
If the issue continues, proceed to the next step.
Step six: - Remove and re-add the product to the printer list
Double-click Macintosh HD.
Double-click the Application/Utilities folder.
Open the Print Setup Utility folder.
Select the appropriate product.
Click the red X to delete the product from the computer.
Disconnect the USB or Ethernet cable from the product.
Close all open windows and restart the computer.
After the computer is restarted, double-click Macintosh HD .
Double-click the Application/Utilities folder.
