Question about Canon PIXMA iP2200 InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

Canon IP2200 ports

Im trying to connect my cannon IP2200 to my usb port. I have a working cable and enough power so I know those are not an issue. I have the drivers and such installed but the PC and printer will not communicate over my usb. I tried goin in and adding it with the printer wizard but no usb port is listed in the port selection segment. Is there another way to add this port?

    I have tried another usb cable and other devices work perfectly in the same usb port. I did reinstall the driver and upon rebooting a message poped up staing that a usb device had been detected and driver were installed. The device was ready for use. Imediatly after, however, another message poped up stating the device had malfunctioned and was no longer servicable. I know for certain the printer works as I recently used it on another computer. I will try to reinstall the driver with the antivirus disabled. Thank you for the prompt response, it was most unexpected and your suggestions most appreciated. Also I am running windowsXP service pack 3. I manualy ran the updates for windows prior to my first installation attempt.

Hi,

Offhand, a couple of ideas, queries and suggestions:

  • verify the USB is enable in the CMOS/BIOS settings/configuration;
  • verify that there are no yellow or red markings in the Device Manager particularly the Universal Serial Bus Controllers;
  • try re-installing the printer drivers with your anti-virus temporarily disabled;
  • try re-installing the printer drivers with the printer not physically connected to the USB ports. Connect printer only when instructed to do so, Reboot;
  • update your Operating System;
  • pls humor me, tried a spare USB cable?
  • have you tried the printer in another PC?
  • have you tried other USB devices such as webcam, flashdrive, digital camera?
Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Something just came to mind, some USB controllers could be powered down by the OS. Pls uncheck the feature "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in all of the USB Root Hub Properties inside Device Manager.

Won't print...say's the printer is not-connected.

Try a new USB cable and switching the cable to a different USB port on the laptop. Check if a known working device will work on the laptop. Make sure that you aren't getting a low power situation (low battery, battery not charging properly). If the power adapter is unplugged, see what happens when the computer is attached to the adapter and getting power from the socket.

USB ports can be shut down for power savings so double check that your computer isn't doing this. (This is an advanced portion of the power savings settings and can be found via the Screen Saver Panel in Windows.)

Check the computer's hardware (Windows Device Manager) to check that the USB ports haven't been disabled by a driver problem or any other issue. Control Panel, Device Manager and scroll down to the USB device controller (Windows)

Canon Pixma ip3600 message saying printer is not online

This could be a problem with the port. If you have the printer attached to a USB hub, directly connect to the computer. Try connecting to a different USB port and test the current port with a known working device. Consider trying a new USB cable (minor damage could be a factor in signal loss).

I hope this helps.
