Question about Nikon Coolpix 5700 Digital Camera

1 Answer

CF Error - Card cannot be used

All my CF cards now give me the same message, including the original start up card. I originally got an out of memory message while shooting and replaced the card with a spare one but my Nikon 5700 did not recognize it even though I've used it before. I can't format any card in the camera now as all CF card functions are disabled on the menu. I tried a brand bew card with the same results. All these cards still work fine in a reader and I did not lose a single shot. I just can't take any new ones.

Your problem sounds as if there's a bent pin in the CF card holder inside the camera. To fix it you will have to be very careful with a long blade fine screwdriver. Remember you'll have to straighten it in one go. If you bend them twice you can bet they'll break. A powerfull light to see the bottom where the pins are is needed too. If you're not willing to do the job yourself there's a guy on Ebay USA who straightens them. BMW

I got message "system error

Having a "System Error" message display on the camera's LCD display generally indicates a problem where the camera will need to come to Nikon for repair. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. Before sending the camera in, check these:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with the camera (or a Nikon approved card) [/*]
  2. Remove and replace the battery [/*]

99 error, CF memory card was removed to download pix. put CF card back in camera, but now get error message. removed battery and card several times, including replacing with another card. still get same...

Err 99 could mean several different things, such as... Memory Card, Lens or Lens contacts....
Here's what you can try:
Remove the memory card an enable "shooting with out memory card" and see if you still get the error. If it works your memory card is bad. Try another lens if you can. Clean the lens contacts with a pencil eraser (be careful not to get eraser dust in the camera body or in the lens). Worst case scenario is, Err 99 could be related to the shutter failing which would mean a trip to Canon.

Canon EOS 400D - Error message - There is a problem with your CF card- needs replacing. We have original card and also replaced with new card - message keeps appearing. What else could this mean?

Look inside the card compartment to check for broken or bent pins. Have you tried formatting the card in the camera? This will erase it so download any pictures first using a card reader if necessary.

I get a memory card error even though it has a card installed

Issue: Memory card Error
Solution: Try a different memory card and/or Reformat memory card PowerShot A70

Formatting a CF Card You should always format a new CF card or one from which you wish to erase all images and other data.
caution_a70.gifPlease note that formatting a CF card erases all data, including protected images and other file types. Please check the contents of the CF card before formatting it.
  1. Turn the power on.

  2. Press the <MENU> button and select [ tools_icon.gif(Set up)] using direction_arrow_lt.gifor direction_arrow_rt.gif.

    format_menu_1.gif

  3. Select format_icon_a70.gif(Format) using direction_arrow_up.gifor direction_arrow_down.gifand press the <SET> button.

    format_menu_2.gif

  4. Select [OK] using direction_arrow_lt.gifor direction_arrow_rt.gifand press the <SET> button.

    format_menu_3.gif

    • To cancel formatting instead, select [Cancel] and press the <SET> button.
    • The capacity of the CF card displayed after formatting will be less than the rated capacity of the CF card. This is not a malfunction of the CF card or camera.

  5. Press the <MENU> button.
note_icon_a70.gif
  • If the camera does not work properly, the inserted CF card may be malfunctioning. Reformatting the CF card may solve the problem.
  • When a non-Canon brand CF card is malfunctioning, reformatting it may solve the problem.
  • CF cards formatted in another camera, computer or peripheral device may not operate correctly. When that happens, reformat the CF card with this camera.

I installed a new cf card in my canon camera. It says "card not formatted" and when I try to format it, it says "cannot format. change CF card". what gives?

Check if you're using a compatible CF card in the Camera. You can look in the user manual of the Camera to check for the compatible CF cards.
If the CF card that you're using is compatible but not working in the Camera then try using the card in other Camera to determine if the issue is with the card.

If the Card works normally in other Camera or device then reset the Camera to the original factory settings.
Even after resetting the Camera to the original factory settings if the CF card doesn't work in the Camera then you may try using any other compatible CF card to determine if the issue is with the CF card reader in the Camera.

My cell phone dont recognize memory card that i was using

Hi there, I assume that you are changing the card from the original phone to another model or brand of phone - if so, then it is likely that the card is formatted to the original phone and as such will not be read by other phones (hence your error message).
There will be a function in the phones that will format the card to that phone, but be aware that you wil lose all information on that card.

Previous solution is the FAIL. Original poster says it works fine in _camera_, but not in _printer_. _Printer_ is the compatibility issue, not camera.
