How do i get videos from it to my Windows PC

This is the exact problem and message I sent to Canon

"Ok guys I need help. My friend recently loaned me a Canon ZR45mc with a FireWire. I have a very good WindowsXP. My problem is: How do I putt videos from the tape on my PC with a FireWire??? When I plug it in, it comes up with the Driver install message, and I downloaded the driver software from your site, which did not work because the README said to set it to Card.
1. I do not want to install the card driver, just the driver for the tape.
2. I do not have the card.
Also, it was not installing either. So please tell me how to put video clips on my Pc with the firewire. I tried hittin Windows Movie Maker and selected "Capture from Video Device" but it was not detecting anything. Please reply soon."

USB won't work. Need firewire. Use settings: "TAPE" and "PLAY (VCR). Hit Menu - VCR SET UP - AV/DV OUT (change to ON)

My Canon FS200 DVC isn't transferring files

Hi mate, I had same problem as you, took the cam into store and teh guy helped me out.

Make sure you get the recharger for the camcorder, then plug it into teh camcorder and also to the wall power when you are uploading the files. It can needs an extra power boost to get the files onto your computer.

- so plug in your camcorder to computer
- also plug in the battery recharger cord to the camcorder

Should work fine!!

Windows Vista will not let Windows Movie Maker import/edit videos

I would look for a more recent driver on the Samsung support website specifically for  Vista; it apparently does not have the right (or any) driver to permit it to work with your DVD camcorder. I don't think any of your hardware, computer or camcorder is dysfunctional, Windows just has to know how to communicate with it.
What you might try first is to have the camcorder connected (USB I assume) and reboot your PC. If Win can see it at all, you should get a screen message that it has found new hardware.  If it has some basic driver on hand, the message might state 'installing software for your device.'

This is not a sarcastic reply - it's genuine. If you're serious about making video, switch to a Mac. I use an XL1 or 2 every day, never have a connection issue. Regards, Nik

It's possible that the hard disks are in a non-DMA mode. Microsoft admits that there is a problem and a quick fix is to set the drives to PIO, OK it then go back in and set them to DMA. Best of luck,
