Question about Dell 924 All-in-One InkJet Printer

924 message "printer is busy"

My Dell 924 printer responds "printer is busy" and "Check control panel" when I submit a job for printing. I find nothing informative in the control panel. The "printer is busy" message occurs whether or not any queued jobs are shown for the 924 printer. This problem showed up just after I changed the color ink cartridge. What do I need to do?

    I tried a number of times to re-install the 924 printer driver without success. Re-installation was eventually successful, though I didn't figure out why the previous attempts were not. I appreciate the volunteered efforts to help.

Take out the cartridges
disconnect printer from computer
Turn off the printer

On the computer cancel documents in queue
if using a straight USB connection, delete all instances of printer. else remove duplicate printer icons.
reboot.

Reconnect printer (swap cables if not detected)
Insert the cartriges

Try printing again

Uninstall the printer from the Device Manager. Dis-connect the printer from the computer. Reboot the computer. Re-connect the printer to the computer. Allow your computer to detect its' connection from Windows. If it is successful - it will indicate it is ready for use. If not, then there is a problem with the printer. Try another printer, if available, and see if that works - if it does, then it's the printer that's bad, not the computer.

It starts to feed and the rollers keep going and the paper stops and does not print

If you are using Windows Operating System, I suggest you do the following procedures.

  1. While your computer is turned OFF, unplug the printer's USB cable from the computer and transfer it to another USB port in your computer that is unused.
  2. Then turn your computer ON and Windows will try to configure it and install the drivers needed for your printer to run on the new USB port.
  3. If steps 1 and 2 above don't work to fix your problem, the last thing I can recommend is "uninstall" your printer from the Control Panel and restart your computer. After restarting, install your printer and try if it now works.

just check out all the power & (plug & play ) ....
than search for optimal drivers all installed or not ? make it clear..... if not ! than complete u'r job 1st... than start your printing ....

Printer Problems


Uninstall the printer driver software completely and then download the drivers from the dell website for the Dell 924. Reboot the system and it should be okay.

Installing ink cartridge


I've had this problem too. The only way to make the message go away is to buy the ink from Dell. Although generic ink cartriges will work the printer will not/can not reset the "low ink" message unless you buy the cartriges directly from Dell. So you can use another brand, but you'll just have to overide the low ink message when it pops up by telling it to continue printing. Then you can tell when the ink is low by seeing it when it prints out.

Printer busy message


See if this works:

Turn computer off
  1. Power off the printer.

  2. Close all printer covers and doors.

  3. Hold down the uparrow.jpg and downarrow.jpg (up arrow and down arrow) buttons on the printer and power the printer on.

  4. Release your fingers from the buttons when the message Diagnosing... appears.

  5. When Customer Mode and ESS Diag display, press the downarrow.jpg (down arrow) button until Test Print appears, and then press the select (center) button.

  6. Press the downarrow.jpg (down arrow) button until ContaminationChk appears, and then press the select (center) button twice.

  7. After the LCD displays Busy and the printer prints the ContaminationChk pages, power off the printer and power it back on.
