Access your router by typing in 192.168.0.1 at the address field of your browser you will have to enter your user name and password in the dialogue box that pops up (if you have not set them up check your manual for the default ones user is usually admin) in the left side panel once into your router click on router upgrade and on the page given to you click the Reboot button

To reset your wireless router or router you have to insert a pin on the hole "reset" located at the back of your unit during a couple of minutes.

Hi: I am getting ready to replace my computer. Can you give me instructions for rebooting my modem and Netgear wireless router, please? Thanks.

Really, there's nothing in the router that you'll need to update.

If you use an Ethernet cable to connect your new computer to the router, the computer will just "connect", automatically, to the router.

If your new computer has a wireless adapter, you'll have to enter the SSID and password that you have already configured into the router.

Cant display netgear setup page

  1. Decide on a Netgear router. There are a number of router offerings, and prices and features differ depending on the model. Choose one that meets your needs and fits your price range.
  2. Step 2 Purchase a Netgear router, looking for the best price possible. Consumer electronics shopping sites like NewEgg and TigerDirect often offer good deals on clearance, open boxes or shipping (see Resources below).
  3. Step 3 Place the router by clearing a space on or under a desk. The router should be located centrally to reduce the distance to clients and assure better connections. The location will vary depending on how it will be used. For example, it shouldn't be placed in the corner of a basement if wireless clients all over the house will be using it.
  4. Step 4 Set up and plug in the Netgear router and wait a few seconds for it to boot up. Since the router is essentially a mini-computer, it won't work instantly when it's turned on. While it's booting, the power light should flash. When it's finished booting, the power light should stay solid.
  5. Step 5 Connect a computer to the router, either with a wireless or a wired connection. Reboot the computer to ensure it gets a new IP address from the router via Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
  6. Step 6 Open the web interface by entering "http://192.168.1.1/" into the address bar of your web browser. If a login screen is presented, use "admin" as the username and either "1234" or "password" as the password.
  7. Step 7 Connect to the Internet, if necessary. Plug your cable modem or DSL modem into the router's WAN port in the back and run the Internet Connectionmag-glass_10x10.gif Setup Wizard from the web interface.
  8. Step 8 Follow the directions and provide authentication information.
  9. Step 9 Connect more clients. At this point, clients should be able to connect and access the Internet.

GoodLuck ;-)

Upgrade the Firmware of the router :
First you should check the version of you WPN824 (v1,v2 or v3). If there are no Version after the model number, it should be a version 1. Download the Firmware of your router given the correct version at this link :

This is assuming that other wireless laptops has the same problem onyour wireless router. If other Laptops works great on your wirelessrouter without dropping any wireless connection, then you shouldconsider upgrading the wireless adapter on you own laptop.

Try the reset switch on the back of the router. Using a paperclip, hold the reste switch in for 30 secs and then power down the router. Once that is completed, you should be able to access the router config page under factory settings.

I use remote desktop, winxp profess. Every so often the router hangs up eliminating remote access until the netgear MR814 router is rebooted. Is there any way I can reboot this wireless router remotely? ...

i would go to your local radio shack or electronic dealership and buy an automatic timer, and plug your router into that. have set to shut off then turn on at certain times. it will work for just fine. you can get them at kmart or pretty much anywhere. if you not sure about the device im writing about just tell someone in the store to get you a timer that has 110 v plug and explain what you need it for . hope you find one, good luck
